To continue with the photography idea, since he loves taking photos, why not get a hold of some of his photographs and create a photo book for him? It's really easy and fun - and they come out looking fantastic.

I really like blurb.co.uk - they have some specials going at the moment. I recently got an email from them with a 20-30% off deal.

From the email:
Save 20% on orders over £25, and 30% on orders over £30. Simply enter the promo code NOMNOM at checkout before 24 October 2012 to get your savings.

Thanks so much to everyone for all your great suggestions.

I have decided to order the "Growing Together" personalized artwork, and the Anniversary Book.

I have bookmarked your other ideas and may use them for Christmas or other gift-giving occasions. :)

Thanks again!

I just hope that more people will ignore the fatalism of the argument that we are beyond repair. We are not beyond repair. We are never beyond repair. - AOC

Funny you should mention this as I DID actually think of a hip flask. I will put this on my Christmas ideas list. I think he'd love the Man U one. Thank you. :)

We took the traditional route for our first anniversary (paper), and decided that meh -- neither one of us needed any 'stuff'...and besides, our flat is packed to the gills with it!
Rather, we took the Eurostar to Bruges for a long weekend together. It was absolutely perfect, and met the traditional requirement: Our tickets were paper!  ;)

I just wanted to report back that I received the anniversary book and it is quite lovely. I can imagine this being a great keepsake in years to come. There is a section to write "How we met" (husband and wife's version :) ). Then each year you can paste in an updated photo or two and how you spent your anniversary, and any notable happenings in the past year. For a young couple, I think this would be an especially great gift, as it would be a wonderful record to pass down to your children and grandchildren.

I haven't received the personalized artwork yet (it is due to be shipped tomorrow), but will report back on that as well.

for our first anniversary, bought my tickets to an event I very much wanted to attend (probably not very romantic to most, since it was a hockey game, but it suited me :D ) and some paraphernalia like a jersey to wear. Then he basically made the whole day a date.

Wow thanks! That's actually a really awesome idea! I am completely stumped as to what to get my fiance when he visits next month. He really is super hard to buy for and he's 26. We have a year under our belt and I nee to get him a bday/christmas/thanks for putting up with me for a year present and was clueless. That is a fairly good idea.

If anyone else can give me any tips on meaningful things that I may be able to get him that he can fit in a suitcase back to England, pleasseee help me out :)
