Help school for special needs child.
« on: October 02, 2012, 01:58:12 AM »
Please guys I really need your help. My daughter is 17 and still in US high school. We r suppose to move to England at the beginning of the year but my husband is saying she won't be able to go to school when she gets over there and for him this is a deal breaker. I'm almost worried he might go without us. He doesn't want her doing online school as well. Surely there r kids in England that have special needs and don't finish right at 16. If a child has difficulty learning do they just boot them out if they r disabled. She has spina bifida. Do any of u know if there are special circumstances for such a thing. She turns 18 in December and is only in the 10th grade. Thanks so much

I don't really know anything about this, but it may be worth contacting the council of the area where you are going to be living.

I haven't had time to read this through but here is a link which might provide information:
http://www.goodschoolsguide.co.uk/help-and-advice/your-child/16-school-options/325/help-on-leaving-school-for-children-with-sen

I have it in my mind that children with special needs, and have a statement of needs, have access to schooling up until the age of 18 or 19, and in some cases longer.

As miss joules says, it is worthwhile making a few phone calls. The local education authority in the area in which you intend to live will be able to help you. (From a friend's personal experience I know that they chose to move into a neighboring county as their special education provision better suited her daughter's needs.)

Does your husband have family in the UK who could help you at all?
