how to get copy of us birth certificate

Hi,

I think I've lost my son's US birth certificate (we have copies but not the original). Does anyone know whether it's possible to get certified copies from the embassy/consulate? or does it have to be done in the US?

You can't get it from the consulate but you likely can get it mailed to you from the county clerk where the birth was registered.

I just contacted the registrar's office in the state I was born in when I needed mine. They were nice enough to expedite it for me and post it here.

The Department of Vital Statistics in the state where he was born should also be able to help.
