Starting to talk like a Brit...
« on: October 24, 2012, 01:47:29 AM »
The more and more I talk to my fiance the more and more I find myself phrasing things in a very english way...I'm starting to replace the word "really" with "well" for example. He says his friends laugh at him for sounding more American now too..Has this happened to anyone else ever or is this culture swapping issue just with is? hahaha  :P

I don't pick up the accent at all, but I do use some of the terminology; it helps communication if we speak the same language. LOL!

I catch myself saying things like Lie-In, Kip, knackered, I think its only normal to pick up things. I teach him new words too! lol I'm sitting here trying to think of all the british words I use, but I cant think of any just because they've become integrated into my everyday vocab. It makes us sound more "worldly" to other americans, or they just laugh like my co-workers do! lol

Ahh thank you! Hah I am super new to this site and browsed a bit but it seemed like a lot of the topics were a few years old so I sort of stopped browsing a little. Plus when I'm doing it from my mobile browser it can be a bit tricky. Thanks again for the link! :)
