Heathrow to London?
« on: November 02, 2012, 03:03:00 AM »
Basically, my husband will be picking me up from Heathrow and we need to get to the Chinese Embassy (or wherever we have to go for our Visas) in London (12 Old Jewry, London, EC2R 8DU).

We're unfamiliar with London and don't want to drive in, so we're wondering what is the best and cheapest way. One option my husband has found is picking me up at Heathrow and parking at Hounslow to take the underground into town.

Any advice would be appreciated.

I don't know about driving in London, so I will let those who live there give you advice, but I would think to just go via public transportation from Heathrow- but then you do have to go back to Heathrow I take it? Is Heathrow easy for you husband and where you're travelling onto next.

How much time do you have?  If you wanted to go via tube or train that's quite easy.  have a fair bit of time, take the Picadilly line to the Bakerloo line, bob's your uncle.

Otherwise, you could get the Heathrow Connect or Heathrow Express to Paddington and get on the Bakerloo line as well.

Driving into town on a weekday will incur the congestion charge and it will not be a fast or easy journey. Public transport is your best bet.

I do know of a place where street parking is free and it's a short walk to Osterley Station  (Piccadilly). Let me know if you need the info.

I always take the Heathrow Express to Paddington and then the tube from there. There are cheaper ways to do it, but it's the easiest, most convenient and (more importantly) most stress-free way.

I would park at or near the airport and take the Piccadilly line to Holborn, change for the Central line to Bank, which is the closest station to EC2R 8DU.

The Heathrow Express to Paddington may be faster, but it's much more expensive and would involve two changes on the undergraound to get to Bank.

The HExpress is going to put you in North West when you want to be South East. Also you're looking at the difference between £4 and £20

Personally I'd switch to the district line at Hammersmith which doesn't involve a platform change and walk from Mansion House. Holborn is a really deep station and also really busy even during the day because of the British museum.
