DCF & Social Security Cards
« on: November 16, 2012, 04:33:13 PM »
Warning: Probably a very silly question.

Filling out the DS-230 Part 1 and it asks if you would like the SSA to issue you a SS# & card.

DH doesn't have a SS#, but I thought we applied for that once in the States?

Just worried that we will get the visa before the card, move to the US and losing it in translation.

So did you get the card whilst in the UK as part of the DCF process or did you wait until actually moving to the US?

Ticking this box is in place of you applying for the SSN card as a separate thing once you get to the US.  It basically combines the process with the greencard app.

The card comes about a few weeks after greencard activation.  It comes to the address you have listed as residing in the US.  It does not come to you during the greencard app process.
