DSLR owners please help!
« on: November 23, 2012, 09:40:15 PM »
Hi guys,

I have had my lovely canon 350d for a very long time now and have tried to keep it as clean as possible. However I have noticed some hair or clutter of dust on the side of the screen when I take any pictures. Does anyone know where I can go to get this cleaned and approximately how much that will cost me? Or should I sell it on as its not worth it due to its age? Any help would be much appreciated!

Do you have your own little lens cleaning kit? Could help you get in the camera body  and root out any clutter before handing it off to a specialist.

I recommend giving Calumet a call, they are my go to camera guys. They can give you an idea of how much it costs.

Are you in London enough to make dropping it off worth it? Maybe there is a specialist a bit closer to you.

My husband uses Calumet for this. He usually drops it off since we're not too far from London and he rents equipment for photo jobs from them sometimes.

Thanks for your advice guys. It turns out there is a scratch on the actual sensor and I'm gutted! I've been quoted huge amounts to have it fixed so just selling it for spares and repairs on ebay. Hubby bought me a compact to get over the loss. I said I didn't want a dslr ever again because I took great care of the last and it still got a damn scratched sensor.

I must say, I missed the small size of a regular point and shoot. If I ever go back to interchangable lenses, I want to wait until they perfect cameras like the olympus pen.

What a bummer about your camera :( Glad you at least got a point and shoot to replace it for now.

Sorry about your camera. I feel your loss.

I must say, I missed the small size of a regular point and shoot. If I ever go back to interchangable lenses, I want to wait until they perfect cameras like the olympus pen.

I've have the Olympus EP-1 for a couple of years now and LOVE it. It's lightweight, I can put it in the pocket of my Barbour or in my handbag and I take it everywhere with me. Also, the Olympus micro 4/3rds will take pretty much any lens (nikon/canon/sigma etc) with an adaptor. I sold off my Nikon DSLR and now use the prime lenses I bought for it with the Pen.

And it has some pretty fantastic "art" settings so I don't have to worry about post processing.

Have I mentioned how much I love it?
