Passport question - name change

I am in the midst of finalizing my divorce in the US, and I am trying to figure out if I would be required to change my name on my US passport right away....if I do end up changing my name back, that is. If I do change it in the divorce, but not on my passport right away, would it be acceptable if I just bring a certified copy of my divorce decree documenting the discrepancy in names when I travel?

Yeah, that makes absolute sense. I guess what I should be asking is - is it okay if I travel under the name on my passport if legally my name has been changed to my maiden name? It's not that I'd have an issue changing it, it's more a matter of timing since it can take 4-6 weeks (unless I pay for priority processing). I suspect I know the answer, I think I'm just reaching for straws.

There is no problem traveling using the name in your passport after it has been changed back to your maiden name. There is no way the airlines would know that you have changed it anyway. You just always book the travel in the name in your passport, regardless of what you use elsewhere.

Okay, good to know! Then I will not stress overly about changing the name in time for any travel plans, and will just make sure to book flights in the name on my passport.....whatever it may be! Thanks!
