Cool Whip -vs- Dream Whip
« on: November 29, 2012, 05:49:55 PM »
I make a cherry cheesecake that calls for cool whip. As I have already found out, I can't find cool whip here in the UK. Someone told me to use dream whip. I have used dream whip before in the US and it doesn't have the same texture as cool whip. It seems to be more silky.

Is there anything else you can use that would be close to cool whip? Also, cool whip is frozen until thawed and if I had to use dream whip, could I freeze it for a little bit to get the same texture that I'm looking for?

Thanks for your help.

Could you use real whipped cream? I don't think that Cool Whip has made it over here, but we do have the whipped cream in a can. Kinda like Reddi Whip back in the states. Don't know if that would work though.

Thanks for answering but don't think reddi whip will work. Too thin!

I've never had a recipe that I didn't just substitute real whipped cream for cool whip.  If you need it stiffer, just over whip it a bit.  The real stuff is better than cool whip anyway.

I was going to suggest the same thing...just over whip the real stuff.

Thanks. I will try that then. Sounds like it will work.

Careful, you can whip real cream too much and it becomes butter.

Ask me how I know!  :P

True, I was going to say to be careful if you wanted it thicker.  Really though, Cool Whip isn't all that thick, so you shouldn't have to overwhip it.

Thanks for the tip. Otherwise, I wouldn't have known.
