Oh that reminded me of when I ordered enchiladas at a restaurant one time.  What actually came was a Chinese vegetable stir fry with sweet chili sauce wrapped in a flour tortilla.  LOL!!!  Yeah, they really haven't a clue, have they?  But still, ya gotta' love 'em.  They try.  ;D

Haven't a clue at what? Emulating the US?

Why would we want to?

Strange - today is the first time I've ever heard it called the 'heel' :P.

Maybe it's a regional and/or personal thing... some people call it the 'heel' and others call it the 'end' or the 'crust' of the loaf? Probably just depends what you grew up with.

Well I'm from Yorkshire and always called it the crust, DW from Philadelphia and calls it the heel!

NY and DC-er here, we say crust, or perhaps end. Never heard of heel before!
It is difficult to speak adequately, or justly, of London. It is not a pleasant place; it is not agreeable, or easy, or exempt from reproach. It is only magnificent... the biggest aggregation of human life, the most complete compendium in the world.

Same here (socal also!)... but in the west of Scotland I've heard it called 'ender bit', and 'doorstop'.

That is basically emulating the US, though, as enchiladas aren't a common (or even cultural) food here (unlike Mexican food in the US). I've had some really bad Mexican food here ("nachos" that were clearly made with water/flour paste baked in an oven for 20 minutes), but there are some good/authentic places (in London, at least). I just always expect Mexican food on menus to be sub-par until proven otherwise, because it's not everyday food here. Curry, on the other hand - I have yet to have a "bad" curry, and even the "meh" curry would be what I would consider high-end in parts of the US I've lived.

Yup, I grew up with "heel" -- but I never know whether some of these sayings come from the Yankee side or the Irish side of me  :-\\\\
