They have those in Prague.  It's called smažený sýr--breaded, fried cheese served hot and melty in a bun with lettuce and a creamy sauce.  You can get them from street kiosks.  They are soooo goood.  I used to eat them far too often when I lived there.
Yum!

Have to be careful particularly in Eastern Europe. My friend is a veggie and when we went to Prague he ordered potato soup. Fortunately another member of our party had ordered same and started eating first and could warn him there were pieces of ham in in. It took some explaining to the waiter who was saying "vegetable? yes, it's potato"!

The most similar burgers I have found is at TGI Fridays and Hard Rock Cafe...can't tell the difference, unless im just used to UK burgers now.

I'm not entirely sure I see the relevance of that to either burgers or fried cheese sandwiches...which are definitely fried cheese only with no stealth meat.  But it's true that Czech cuisine is not particularly vegetarian-friendly.

I know the thread has evolved and meandered (as discussions do) but, as no one's mentioned it, I'd just like to note that X-Burger in Kilburn serves up the best burger -- to order -- I've ever had on either side of the Atlantic. Have already asked my husband to have three of the spicy ones (and an order of cheese-polenta cubes) waiting when I arrive next.

the best burger I have had in UK was from Bleecker St Burger (http://bleeckerburger.co.uk/ [nofollow] ) a street food vendor mainly serving in London :(

We live in Brum, so have to settle with the next best for me which is Gourmet Burger Kitchen (their burger buns do no disintegrate :)).  The street food scene here in Brum is starting to grow and there are a couple of good potentials :)

Very interesting!
We've been planning to go to Buddy's for a while...

Latest news for Buddy's is that due to huge demand they're opening sit down American diner style restaurant in Strathbungo on Pollokshaws Road. It's the site of the old Kebabish and will come replete with red benched booths and jukebox.  ;D

I've pretty much given up on having burgers out now. We did a BBQ last night and chicklets friend from school came over. We of course had burgers and her friend said it was the best burger she ever had...how did I make them? LOL...I said, I took the meat, made a patty and stuck it on the BBQ. The beef here is so tasty, I just don't understand WHY they have to put anything else in.

Burger Meats Bun is really good but I still think Nice n Sleazy's are better, had some great burgers there. Cocktail and Burger and Meat Bar do some nice ones too. They all use brioche buns rather than the horrid bland puffy things you get a lot of other places.

We went there last night, having eaten in ones in NYC and DC. My husband loves them but I'm just in it for the concretes (like a posh McFlurry - they use Paul A Young chcolates in them!). I can't digest beef so the only mains I can eat are a breaded, deep-friend mushroom burger (which I had in NYC, and would've rather just had the mushroom on its own) or a cumberland sausage. The cheese fries were surprisingly really good, though, and the concretes did not disappoint. They've also got root beer on the menu (stupidly expensive though!), and freshly-brewed, unsweetened iced tea, mmmmm.

Since it's still new, the queue is impressively long, but it only took us ~25min to get to the front on a Wednesday, prime time. Most of us agreed though, that the burgers were just okay, and that in future we'll eat our mains elsewhere, head to a pub until the queue dies down, then walk right up and binge on the concretes/shakes/custards. :)

I checked out the Nice & Sleazy burger on the James v Burger blog, and it looks amazing!  It's good to know that we're finally getting some options for great burgers.
