Campbell's Condensed Cheddar Cheese Soup
« on: January 09, 2013, 06:16:26 PM »
One of the foods  I miss the most from the US is this stuff (http://www.campbellsoup.com/Products/Condensed/Taste-Sensations/2287). I'm a very picky eater but I love this soup with crackers (finally found Doriano crackers which are close to saltines!). But I've not found anything in the UK that even resembles this stuff. Does anyone know of a UK equivalent? Or any American food web sites that stock this? My grandmother sent me 4 cans of it but shipping is too ridiculously expensive to make it a regular thing!

Have you tried one of those taste alike recipes?

I can't think of an UK equivalent. And they have some condensed soups here but not that one. :(

I haven't seen it anywhere here- but the link Cali-Girl posted would be pretty good.
It is an awesome base for a Big Mac cheeseburger soup!

I'll give that a try-- I'm a bit of a disaster in the kitchen and the last time I tried to make a cheese soup it turned out solid (!!) but it's worth another try!

Thank you for the link!  I wasn't even looking for such a recipe, but that one does look tasty!  It looks like it would be easy to "dress up" for those who might like additions (bacon, tomatoes, garlic, etc.) to their soup.

If you're missing saltines, I have occasionally found the actual saltine brand crackers in Waitrose. It seems to be something they don't always stock but I've seen them a few times. If you shop there, I'd suggest keeping an eye out.

Big Mac cheeseburger soup!

I had to check and see if this was for real. Cheeseburger soup!

I found a recipe and it looks pretty good, but there is this ingredient:

1 lb Velveeta--cubed

A pound of Velveeta??

I was not trying to say that I am in any way too cultured for Velveeta. I have eaten a whole block of that stuff straight - no utensils either.....just peeling back the foil wrapper. I felt sort of remorseful.....but I might do it again if given the opportunity.

I used the condensed cheddar cheese soup in my home made mac and cheese - it really helps to bind together all of the other cheeses I use in my recipe. I was only saying the other day that I would miss it in my recipe. Good to know that I'm not the only one missing this stuff!

Now I want some home made mac and cheese!

Actual Saltine crackers?!  :o I can't wait till my local Waitrose starts stocking those - it's the one thing I miss the most, next to pickles!  :)
