Hello - Finally planning move after 5 long years
« on: January 10, 2013, 12:21:16 AM »
Hello all,

I stumbled on this site after doing research for our upcoming move and found so much of the information helpful that I thought I would sign up because I am sure I will have plenty of questions on moving our kitties, securing the visa, and timing shortly!

My background - like most others on here I wanted to visit the UK since I was a child, as it seemed like some cool, mythical place my aunt and uncle adored from when they lived and worked there illegally in the 70s.  I lived and worked in the UK once for 6 months, did some study abroad and study for my masters thesis there, and have been trying to get back permanently for the last, oh, 12 years or so, with a visit or two (or three depending on airfare prices!) per year.

Along the way I somehow fell in with a Swede whose unbelievable win on his first try at the US Green Card lottery meant we ended up in the US for the last 5 years rather than Sweden or the UK.  He has also always wanted to move to London too, so we have spent the last 5 years lining up this move.  He finished uni and got his US citizenship and I maneuvered into a good paying job with a multinational with significant UK presence.  A few more months here to go so now is the time to apply for an internal transfer and finish filling out that EEA permit!

Looking to settle in SE London (Blackheath area), although I have spent time around various parts of the country as well.  Hoping everything turns out well and we can arrive in time to enjoy the summer in the city!

Hi and welcome!

I also met and fell in love with a Swede and we are also moving to the UK on an EEA permit. :)

Best of luck with the transfer and the move!

Ooooo I like Blackheath! Not too far from central, near cutty sark, very pretty when it's sunny and the leaves are falling in autumn. You're gonna love it :D

hey beccarose -

I saw your line of questioning for the EEA Family permit and it cleared up a HUGE amount of questions I had.  Actually that was the main thread that prompted me to sign up for this forum.

Are you currently in the US or Sweden?  Where is your Swede from?  Mine is from up by Stockholm, but we lived for a time (when he started uni) in Lund in the south.  Stockholm just isn't for us at this point in time. Feel free to PM me - always good to know of another Swedish-American couple!

Oh glad it was of use to you! I know there are a lot of questions and concerns that arise.

We are in the US.
My husband is from a tiny town an hour inland from Göteborg. We lived in Sweden for a period before coming back to the US, we've been here 13 years and now it's time for the next great adventure.

Stockholm is great, I love it, but like you just couldn't pictures ourselves living there. Not at this point in time anyway.  :)

Where in the US are you? We are in WA state, not too far from Seattle.
