Shared Container
« on: January 22, 2013, 01:06:26 PM »
We keep looking at everything we want to move and don't want to move, would have to buy and would have to sell and the price of moving smaller amounts of stuff and we are coming to the conclusion we might as well just get a 20ft shipping container.

We have couches, a sleigh bed (Just the frame, not the mattress), an antique desk and a few other nice pieces of furniture.

There is no way we would fill a 20ft container, but it  seems cost more cost effective to just get a container for about $4800 than have to sell and rebuy things just to cut our shipping down to about $2000.

That being said, has anyone come up with a solution that is more cost effective?

Our quote was $4800 for a 20ft container or $3.75/cuft.  Using Upakweship the cheapest they have on their shared container is $10+/cuft.

The other option is, does anyone else want to share a container if we got one?  We are between Baltimore and York PA.   I figure if I "sold" the space at $6/cuft including storage each end for a bit in my garage there might be some takers?

The only thing I can see needing to do is to look in the boxes people give me since my name would be on the customs form, but still, if you needed 100 cuft it could save someone a bunch?

Any thoughts.  We are getting some more quotes too, but any recommendations would be great to?
