Taco Bell Burritos
« on: October 09, 2004, 02:53:47 PM »
One of my favorite comfort foods back home was Taco Bell burriots. They were cheap and filling and (in my opinion) oh so good.

It's one of the things I've been craving since I moved here. But I've found the secret! Yay!

I've not been able to recreate them. They never seemed right and I couldn't think why. When my parents came, my mom, on a whim, brought several packets of taco sauce from Taco Bell (the ones that are like ketchup packets). I decided to give it a try in a burrito and what do you know... it's the missing ingredient!

So I am now in Taco Bell burrito heaven once again. I've already asked mom to send me more.  :) She said yes but said it's embarassing to ask for handfuls of packets when she goes.

Yep that's the secret ingredient. :)

Tell your mom that at a lot of Taco Bell's you don't have to ask for the sauce...they have the packets in a container by where you get your drinks, straws, etc. And even if she has to ask for it they don't usually think anything of when they ask you what type sauce you want you saying I want mild sauce and LOTS of it please. I've been known to do that. :P

They do sell it in a jar in the grocery stores but it's just not the same sauce if you ask me. :-\\\\

Hope you get lots of sauce and enjoy your burritos. ;)

Yeah have your mom go to a taco bell where you can help yourself to the packets.  My brothers take handfuls (literally) everytime they go and keep them in the refrigerator for use on anything mexican we have. ::)  I've see others do it so your mom won't look like a weirdo hehe ;D

I agree the sauce in the stores isn't even close to being the same as the ones from the restaurant....hmmm wonder why they change it?

I don't know but when it first came out in the stores I bought it and it had chunks (onions and stuff) in it...yuck. I emailed them and told them it was nothing like the stuff in the restaurant so they shouldn't pretend it is and sell it that way. They told me it was the same and they didn't know what I was talking about. ::) Since then they've stopped making it with chunks (thank god) but it's still not exactly the same stuff. Close but no cigar. :P

We have a box at work everyone puts their leftover sauce packets (everything from McDonald's ketchup to KFC BBQ sauce) in from lunch and it's always full of Taco Bell sauce.

Funny, I was just craving Taco Bell sauce the other day. I, too, miss Taco Bell.  That is one thing I will eat a lot of when we go back to visit next Summer.

We have hundreds - and I mean hundreds - of Taco Bell sauce packets.  My mother actually bought an entire box of them from the Taco Bell by her when my oldest was over there this summer.  A box contains 2004 packets.  ;D

Not to brag or anything but an one of the kids I used to babysit has been stationed at Lakenheath and I am planning a visit up there in a few weeks to see how she's settling in.  (At least that's what I've told her!!!)  I will be consuming several bean burritos while I'm there though.  :)

I can bring a few back but I don't know how they'll post to you all!   ;D

They'd be fine in a bubble pack!  ;)
