US social security retirement benefit query

DW wants to know how she would claim for her US retirement benefits through Social Security Administration (SSA). Wouldn't be for a few years yet but can this can be done through the US Embassy in London or would she need to do anything when we visit the US?
Also, by filing US income tax will this automatically generate a quarterly Social Security income statement?

I think you can just apply for SS on line or over the phone, just like a US resident. Make sure the SSA has your address in the UK so they can send you all the usual reminders.

Not sure what you mean here. I have just received a SSA-1099 form from them stating income from my benefit for the last year. This information is for tax purposes. I believe the only communications I've had from them since starting benefit is just relating any changes in benefit -- but not a quarterly statement as such.
