Hmm hopefully that will change when I finally get my degree. I don't want to teach the English language, I'd want to be an English teacher for junior high. It's a shame that the positions are so limited.

As Jennie said, there aren't junior high schools in the UK.  You'd be better served focusing on teaching all secondary grades because in an English secondary school, you'll be expected to teach the US equivalent of 6th-12th grade. (yr 7 to A-level)
Love your life, poor as it is. You may perhaps have some pleasant, thrilling, glorious hours, even in a poorhouse. The setting sun is reflected from the windows of the almshouse as brightly as from the rich man’s abode; the snow melts before its doors as early in the spring. Cultivate property like a garden herb, like sage. Do not trouble yourself much to get new things, whether clothes or friends. Turn the old; return to them. Things do not change; we change. Sell your clothes and keep your thoughts…

Well, as an English teacher the OP is highly unlikely to ever get a job here.

So I think they would be better off focussing on what is going to make them happy in the long run.  If your state has a separate stream for teaching middle school, and that is what you want to do, then do it.

I really can't see the situation changing for English teachers or immigration getting easier in any sense.

True. Getting a job as an English teacher is difficult (I've been trying off and on since 2006) even when you're here and can work, let alone when you need sponsorship!
