Girl Scouts Cookies
« on: February 22, 2013, 06:50:19 PM »
Being a former girl scouts I look forward to these yearly treats.
This year I ordered 4 boxes and having my mom ship them over to me. Anyway one else putting in orders  for these treats even from a pond away?

Me. I have four boxes ordered, but why do they always come during Lent?

I eat a few and take the rest to work, although this year I am getting peanut butter patties. Those might need to stay with me.

They had bob a job, which is nowhere near as fun.

I think they stopped that because sending kids into people's houses seems like a bad idea.  Although they brought it back last year.

You can always make your own! There are lots of websites with recipes for similar cookies. I've not tried any yet, but might have to make my own Samoas at some point.

Here's one website as an example:

I urge you to please notice when you are happy, and exclaim or murmur or think at some point, 'If this isn't nice, I don't know what is.' Kurt Vonnegut

Two years ago someone at work went on a business trip to the US and was sent home with Girl Scout Cookies.  She put them in the kitchen and came to tell us she had some American biscuits.  Someone asked what they were like and she said they were for the "guides".  I snapped my head up and said "GIRL SCOUT COOKIES?!?"  We had 3 Americans at the office back then and we raced to the kitchen.  It was really funny. ;D

I just got back from Florida where I bought some girl scout cookies and they were not nearly as good as I remember, the samosa were just eh, neither really caramelly or coconutty and the peanut butter ones, well the chocolate was not of good quality. Am I missing something? Lol.. I was happy to support the scouts though.

Have they changed their recipes or have your tastes changed?

Didn't they change the manufacturer? In my day they were made by Educator, I think. Now there seems to be multiple producers.

There have been multiple producers for years. Caramel Delites are different from Samoas.  CD use milk chocolate and the Samoas use dark.

They are made by different bakeries. So CD and peanut butter patties are the correct name for the bakery that produces for my area of PA, but not for the area that my friend lives in.  She has the Samoa/Tagalong combo from the Little Brownie Bakery.

But if you have someone who lives in the ABC bakery area, they have four cookies that are vegan.  http://www.abcsmartcookies.com/2012-13-cookie-nutritional-facts

I suppose I could make my own, but that sort of ruins the whole once a year thing for me I think.  (Although I imagine they might be better.)  I don't mind supporting the GS.
