Does anyone else think its odd how in the UK they put sweet corn on like everything....tuna?? pizza??? I love corn but WEIRD!

OMG I noticed that to.  But what was even more strange was that all the local pizza shops in Liverpool have an American pizza....it has Pepperoni, sweetcorn, mushroom, jalapeno & green pepper.  I have never seen a pizza in the US with sweet corn and only mexican style pizzas have jalepenos

And I don't actually know if we have it in the states or not, but I'd never heard of salad rocket before coming here.  We have a big pot of it growing in the greenhouse, and lately I can't go out there without plucking a leaf or two to munch on.  It's so good!  And that's coming from someone who really isn't much of a greens person.  I'm heading back to the states soon (*sob*) and wondering if I can find rocket seeds there to start a crop there as well.
Other than that... I have to say, I love Ribena! Lime pickle for my curry. And crumpets. And clotted cream! Oh, and y'all's ice cream.... it's sooo much creamier than in the states.  Can't wait to come back! The full six months next time.  Hopefully. Probably one more turn around the calendar before the permanent move.

Thought rocket was called arugula in the States.

Oh and you can get crumpets in the US. When we went last year to visited sister-in-law, DW took some crumpets. She got the 2 packs out and was showing her sister who said "yes, we have some in the bread bin!"

Yeah, rocket is arugula in the US like what Tykeman posted. Although saying that, I don't remember ever having arugula in the US or even knowing what it was!  :P

Is it really?  Oh thank goodness!  I've only ever had arugula in recipes at restaurants, whereas the rocket I've had here raw, on sandwiches and in salads.  THIS is something I will be indulging in at home from now on!

As for the crumpets, I haven't seen them, but I know how to make them now, so just need to get some rounds to make them in. :) Thanks for the info!!

Some of our higher end markets have arugula/rocket.  Some Kroger's carry it.

That said it is also dead easy to grow.  It grows in pots, as a border and in the garden.

It may be a regional thing in the US as well, as arugula/rocket were very popular in California while I was still there, but it may not be true everywhere. I did get a hilarious text from my dad once asking "WTH rocket salad was? Made out of robots?" when they were visiting us in Manchester.

I think it must be because arugula was in my supermarket in RI.

Growing it is exactly what I intend to do.  We have a big bunch growing here, and we've filled the greenhouse and the garden with dill, coriander, basil, sage, thyme, chives, spring onions, several types of chili peppers, aubergine, oregano, and I even have some artichoke plants going.  I'm not looking forward to losing all my fresh herb resources when I go stateside the end of this month either, so I want to start a similar list there as soon as I get back.  The rocket came up because I didn't think I could get the seeds there.

I grew rocket/arugula last summer in the US.  I wasn't even looking for the seeds- I just saw them when I was buying seeds, so they're definitely easy to find (at least in NW Washington State).  :)

There's a few different types of rocket, all easy to grow -there's flatter ones -more like lambs lettuce (which I really like, but then again, I love mustard greens and dandelion greens) and the sharp pointy kind we think of, also yummy, and red rocket is amazing.
A quick google search found many options in the US for seeds for 'arugula' so you should have no issue.

I learned something new here, because I never knew rocket was arugula in the US, it surely must have existed, but wasn't something I remember ever coming across when grocery shopping.  But I know I was a much different shopper in South Florida than I am now.  (And I didn't have a garden, so growing my own wasn't in my mind either!)

Does anyone else think its odd how in the UK they put sweet corn on like everything....tuna?? pizza??? I love corn but WEIRD!

It is a bit wierd, as on the continent they only use it for animal feed.

And about rocket, I remember when I was younger we would get ramb and rocket to barbecue, very nice. (But we don't have it anymore, cos it hasn't been bbq weather for a few years now.)

More and more people in Spain are starting to eat corn but in the 70's most people thought we were a bit nuts.... :P

I love corn in tuna salad now and also on pizza and sometimes egg which is something my french students taught me.
