Uh, I like to call it 'open minded' :)

I like everything, from pop to even some Heavy Metal.

The only thing I could never take is dark, depressing, gothic kind of stuff.

I really am Rebecca of Sunnybrook Farm, and I just want everyone to be happy.... really.  :)

Okay, except for the people on the tube who SUCK.  But that's a different matter.

I AM A POP GEEK AND PROUD.  So there.

Freedom of choice, of course!  ;)

There's nothing wrong with some light, catchy and melodic pop tunes ... what crunches my stomach (besides sit-ups) is the fact that the music industry basically determines what the masses should listen to. They have the means and money to feature an artist to the excess even if he/she's only average. Secondly, the lyrics get stripped off everything controversial so that they don't offend anyone.

You can be sure that if an artist eventually becomes more daring, it's already been done years before by some artist on a small, unknown label. That's how lesser known artists get signed up by the big music bosses ... first they don't want to take a risk, then they see how successful some trend becomes and promptly, they smell big bucks and jump in. Well, and then, the cycle starts all over again, the artist has to succumb to what the major label wants. Good for those who don't want to sell out and go back to a small music label!

Anyway, got a bit carried away, sorry about the ranting, in my heart I'll be an indie rocker forever  ;)

Well, I certainly agree with you there.

I suppose I should clarify and state that while I use the label, pop geek, there is nearly nothing I find on the radio waves now that would actually justify that label.  I'm a 'vintage pop geek' I guess - can't remember the last time I listened and heard consistently good stuff... I like 60's - early 90's pop, along with various other styles, but, no, ever since Britney and the Boy Band trend, that's when I started listening to 60's Brit Pop, and Latin Jazz, and... other kinds of music.
Too commercial now - too bland - not original.

Yep - I hopped on over to NPR & classical music once the mid-90s struck.  Hubby got me into stuff like Air and the Latin Jazz.  Very very very little new stuff today that attracts me - though I have to say I really like Franz Ferdinand.

Then you should give Interpol a try ... IMO they're the American equivalent of FF.  :)

Queen - Greatest Hits
When I am grown-up I will understand how BEAUTIFUL it feels to administrate my life effectively.

Until then I will continue to TORCH all correspondence that bores me and to dance NAKED over the remnants of its still glowing embers.
