Eynsford or Otford? Which is more liberal?
« on: March 14, 2013, 10:27:42 PM »
I am thinking of moving to the Darent Valley, Kent when I retire.  Upon research, both Otford and Eynsford are lovely, with each offering different things to offer.  Which village is more liberal / progressive on issues like social justice, marriage equality, etc.?  I was looking at Canterbury, but it seems to be way too conservative.

Thanks for your input!

I lived near both of these places  from 2003 - 2005.  Things may have changed, but probably not massively.  Both are small villages, with Otford being the more cosmopolitan of the two.  Eynsford is just a small village, but very lovely.  Otford has a few big box stores and a more travelled train station, more pubs, etc.  I didn't find either to be liberal, and certainly not in comparison to Canterbury, which is a much bigger town with a university and all that entails.  I'm not sure what you are looking for with social justice, but most people just lived their own lives and kept to themselves.

Given they are both in Kent then, politically they are very likely to be Conservative.
Just had a look
They are both in the Sevenoaks constituency and had a 17,515 majority for the Conservatives over Lib Dems.
But socially - people tend not to discuss it much in my experience...it would be help if we knew why you were asking.

I would tend to think Canterbury, as a city (albeit a small one) with a University would be more socially liberal than a small country picture postcard village.
