New to this site!
« on: October 13, 2004, 12:49:51 AM »
hi everyone.

I just found your site and joined it.  I'm a 41-year-old divorced woman currently living in the U.S., but have a goal to try living abroad.  I always dreamed of traveling, but various life events just got me distracted, and I never did it.

Now I'm entering a new phase of life, have a new career (been doing some research and found out it is very transferable to the U.K. and in fact, people are often recruited in my field to go over there), no real ties here, and I'm ready to change my life and start doing some new things.  This site seems very informative and friendly.  Thanks for the welcome!

Lori

Hi, Lori! Your story seems similar to mine (divorced and ready to experience the wider world). When are you planning on moving? Anyway, welcome to the board.  ;D

Thanks everyone for the warm welcome!!

Lexie, since I'm just starting my new career, I have to get some experience for at least a couple of years... :(

Wish I could just up and do it now!!  That would be great.  But I need to have money saved up, and I have to know what the heck I'm doing in my job in order to look attractive to employers in the U.K.  Ah, well.  It's a goal to attain!

Are you already living over there?  How long have you been there?

Oops!  Lexie, I just read the thread you started, "Seattle to London."  So you and I are really in the same boat!  I, too, love cities and think I would absolutely love London, but at this point, would settle anyplace as long as it was in England.

I'll keep my fingers crossed for you!!

Lori

Your plan sounds smart and sensible, Lori. Mine is a little more haphazard. As in, sell everything that doesn't fit into two suitcases and go! The main thing that's tripping me up is getting a work permit. I don't know what field you're going into, but if it has anything to do with IT, engineering or nursing, I envy you.

Anyway, best of luck to you, and feel free to send a PM if you want to chat.
