Been lurking here for MONTHS, but hadn't poked my head over the parapet until last week, after I'd applied for my spousal visa. Can't thank everyone enough for creating such a cornucopia of information (not to mention things to read to help keep the application anxieties away).
Now that my visa's been approved (UKBA Sheffield actually processed my application the day of receipt, according to the date on the visa), I'll be winging my way across the Atlantic for good at the spring bank holiday weekend. This is because I'm a very generous woman, and want to give my husband an extra day off to recover from the inevitable hangover.
But, seeing as I got approved so early, I'll also be nipping home to North London for 55 hours for his birthday next month, partly to get the cats settled (i.e., give them treats and fuss they don't deserve/aren't grateful for, AKA every other day of their lives). Taking as much stuff as I can then as well, so I'll have less to sell/give away/donate/trash/ship by late May.
Also need to start looking for jobs, if only for my own peace of mind. Hoping my 10 years' experience as a medical editor and writer gets me in the door at a medical publisher or agency. Although I'm in the last semester of doing a second bachelor's degree in maritime studies, because maritime history is my hobby, and I would really super-lots like it the most if the National Maritime Museum suddenly needed a communications director.
Thanks again to everyone. Looking forward to being part of the expat community.
