Question about co-sponsers
« on: October 14, 2004, 02:06:58 AM »
Ok, well with me finishing up college and my fiance still in uni, we have some savings, but we will have to ask for some co-sponsers to help us with the visa process.  We have a few members of his family that would be willing to write letters of support, so that's really good. :)  Thing is, it's really very cheeky to ask them for their bank statements, and I'm not so sure they'd be willing to share those as it's an invasion of privacy.   :-\\\\

So, to cut to the chase, can we have them write letters without bank statements?  They are fully employed and homeowners, so it's not as if they wouldn't be able to support us if need be.  Would it be ok if they simply wrote about their financial situations (ex: how they're employed, home owners, etc.) or must we provide bank statements?

It's not as if they're unsupportive, but I'm not sure they want him and myself and all of the immigration people seeing the details of their accounts.  I'm hoping that by having more than one sponser willing to vouche for us we'll be ok.

Thanks

Krissy,

Will you be applying for the British spousal visa? I found this info off the www.ukvisas.gov.uk sight for you:

You may have to attend an interview. At the interview you should have the following documentation available:

recent statements or letters from your sponsor’s United Kingdom employer, bank, local authority or building society to show the support and accommodation that will be available for you in the United Kingdom

So hopefully for you, the operative word in the bold statement is "OR." If they can not supply bank statements {and I understand your sensitivity to this matter} maybe they could supply a letter from their employer stating their annual income along with their personal, written letter for extra 'umph' for you both?

Good luck with this; I know there are more people on this sight who have been thru this and will be much more helpful then I am right now! Keep me updated as I want to be in your situation one day soon too {right now, we're going thru the American fiancee visa process but I long to come back to the UK one day!}  :-*

Hi~

Thanks for your input, NY.  Yes, I'm applying to come to the UK.  Hmmm...what if they happen to be self-employed?  I mean if you're a taxi driver you're considered self-employed aren't you?  This is getting complicated, but it's worth it. ;)

They'll only want bank statements from yourself and your finace.  Your sponsor is your fiance.  There isn't really anything like an official "co-sponsor" in the UK visa process.  What you might need to do is get a letter from your fiance's family members saying that they will let you live with them.  They will then need to get a letter from their landlord saying this okay (if they rent) or if they own their home, will need to supply a copy of their mortgage.  And they'll need to send a letter of support saying they'll help you out.  Bank statements from them shouldn't be necessary.

They will want bank statements from you and your fiance though.  I wasn't employed when we applied so I enclosed my CV showing I was employable as well.

Hope that helps a bit!  Good luck!  :)

Well, thanks...it helps me.  My mother-in-law has agreed to be a co-sponsor, just saying that she will help out if we need it (since we have a place to live and have lived on his income alone for 6 months with no help.  It's basically just a security blanket.  My husband and I are trying to cover all our bases and assure that they will give me the spousal visa.  I'm so damn nervous that I'm sick about it).  I thought that we would need her bank statements as well as a letter from her.  She was willing to give us the bank statements anyway, though.  However, I have a question.  What EXACTLY should she say in her letter?

The wording got through my OISC Advisor's audit last spring, but no guarantees none the less...
