My brother is sending my niece over for a visit in June, I don't have kids so no idea how to keep her entertained for 3 weeks  ??? ???! We live in Surrey so London and south suggestions would be great.

All help appreciated please.

Let her sleep in...give her a laptop to use and she will be happy :) truth is it depends a lot on her likes but I would include London tourist things...tower of London high on my daughter' s list at that age.

Does she do any outdoor type sports? Would she like to hack through the countryside or try out hiking in a national park? Does she love Downton Abbey and would like to see a real stately home?

ps I definitely 2nd the laptop suggestion!

It can be difficult to gauge what teenagers will like, I've spent a lot of money taking my kids to tourist attractions and, with the benefit of hindsight, would start with the free stuff first!

I'm going to vote for shopping. Take her to Primark, TopShop, and Marks and Spencer. Maybe some charity shops. And browse around Covent Garden, Oxford Circus, Regent Street, Carnaby Street.

Wow! Thanks guys. She does like her sleep so that will definitely be on the agenda especially after taking almost 30 hours to get here from Alaska! I love the suggestions and will look more into the links provided. She's outdoor-sie, arty and into music. She says she just wants to hang out with us but I'm thinking "just hang out" for a teenager is different to just hang out for adults.

Great list!  A lot of the museums I knew about, but I didn't think of the Ceremony of the Keys being free!!!  :)  I just walked over to the post office to send a letter requesting tickets for when my family comes to visit.  :)

Glad the list is useful, I love free things!
