Hello,

I'm recently engaged to a wonderful gentleman living in Plymouth, UK. I'd like to think we have some things in common language and culture wise because Im originally from Trinidad & Tobago which use to be a British commonwealth. However, I've spent a good amount of time in NYC so the lines are a bit blurred, LOL. Anyway, I'm just joking. It's nice and comforting to have a forum like this to share with people who have similar goals and soon-to-be experiences. I guess my next step is to post concerning us obtaining a fiancé visa. I'd like to get over there as soon as possible to get married to the man of my dreams but I am currently in the middle of a citizenship application here in the US. My first question is should I begin the fiancé visa process and get married in the UK boost working on my citizenship here in the US? I am awaiting an interview date for the citizenship. From what I've researched, it usually takes 4-5 to get the entire process finished up. I'm in month three currently.
Any advice or similar scenarios would be appreciated!

Excited to start my new life!

Hi Trini!  Welcome to the forums!  I'm not sure I can help you with your question, but if you have not gotten it answered yet you may want to post it in the visa section so that it's more visible and one of the knowledgeable members can help you  :)

I can't see any reason your marriage would affect your US citizenship either way.  It certainly won't hurry it along - if anything I would think it would make it take longer and you would need more paperwork :)

Hi and welcome.
My husband got his US citizenship last fall, look at my signature for the timeline. Start to finish his process took just over 2.5 months. From what we've experienced and heard it takes differing time frames depending on where in the US you are. We are in Washington state.
That being said, if you are awaiting your interview date I would say you're pretty close now so probably best to just sit tight and wait. Then again if you get your date and it's set for 3 months down the line (it won't be most likely) then I don't see any harm in beginning the process for your fiance visa.
9/11/2012 Husband mailed his US citizenship application.
9/17/2012 Received e-mail stating his application has been entered into the system.
9/22/2012 Hubby received letter with date for finger printing.
10/12/12 Hubby went for finger printing.
10/26/12 Dh got a letter stating when he should appear for his interview and test- 11/27/12- just a month away!!!
11/27/12 We went to dh's interview and test- he passed and we went back 4 hours later for the Oath Ceremony! 95 people from 38 countries, really pretty cool!
So he's now a US citizen!!
