Quick question - I have already called up the California state tax hotline and talked to someone but I am still left confused and I think they were confused as well.
I'm trying to see what status I need to file as -
I have not been in the state of California since November 2011.
I however have a valid drivers license. (Can only surrender it in person)
I have my name on a car and a joint car loan in that state and the car resides in that state.
I have made no income at all since 2011.
I have two bank accounts in that state. (Going to close them out this week though)
I'm trying to figure out if I should just file nothing at all or as a non resident. I would file non resident except for the following bolded points below.
According to:
https://www.ftb.ca.gov/forms/2012/12_1031.pdfDetermining a resident:
Factors to consider are as follows:
• Amount of time you spend in California versus amount
of time you spend outside California .
• Location of your spouse/RDP and children .
• Location of your principal residence .
•
State that issued your driver’s license.•
State where your vehicles are registered .• State in which you maintain your professional licenses .
• State in which you are registered to vote .
• Location of the banks where you maintain accounts .• The origination point of your financial transactions
Any advice?
