I love Pointless and watch it fairly religiously, playing along at home. I think it might be too sedate for the US market, what with the low prize money and all. Is it exciting to watch people try to win $1000?

That being said there are a few UK quiz shows that have crossed over to US shores like Millionaire and Weakest Link that have been quite popular, so I suppose if you adapt the format correctly, why not?

Yeah, I think the prize money amounts will be too low to interest the US market.

Mastermind gets you a glass bowl.  And bragging rights.  I guess.

100 to 1 used to get you something similar to a piece of Roman pottery, but not anything that actually had any monetary value.

The prizes are weak and I like Pointless, but I can't watch it live because they spend wayyyyy to much time blah, blahing about the contestants.

Money, schmoney.  Obviously, people play for the coveted Pointless trophy.  That is beyond price.

I haven't seen Pointless. I think Eggheads is a bit boring.

I love the Chase! However, it's partly because I love Bradley Walsh. When he gets a fit of the giggles, it's contagious.   If a US version had a great host and real "characters" for the experts/Chasers, I think it could do well.

Not enough flashing lights and sound effects for US television.

I love Pointless, even have it on series link! It gets interesting as the prize money rises. No reason why if they did it in the US that the prize money couldn't be higher - it's what they did with Weakest Link. Think maximum prize was £10,000 in UK but was $100,000 in the USA (or maybe more)

I don't see much different between Pointless and Jeopardy in terms of flashing lights and sound effects.  Only that on Pointless they talk to the contestants throughout the show too much.  Save it for a quick chat after the break.

I love Pointless, but I'm not sure how well it would do in the States, same with 8 out of 10 cats (too risque) and Have I Got News For You (great, but still looks like it was made in 1982). There's something amazing about British quiz shows, so good, so naff.
It is difficult to speak adequately, or justly, of London. It is not a pleasant place; it is not agreeable, or easy, or exempt from reproach. It is only magnificent... the biggest aggregation of human life, the most complete compendium in the world.

They are classed as "panel shows". But enjoy those as well....not fussed about League of their Own but love QI and also the topical ones like Have I Got News For You
