Shopping for a new phone
« on: May 15, 2013, 10:13:12 PM »
I've been using the same phone here for the past three years. It is the cheapest Nokia phone. It's a pay-as-you-go plan with Lebara. I love it, and have had ZERO problems with it. The connection is great.  For about the past 6 months, Lebara has offered unlimited calls to the USA for 9.95GBP, good for 30 ays. Now they've eliminated that plan, and the new unlimited call plan is 29GBP, not exactly what I want to pay.

I am looking for a new plan, and perhaps a new phone. I've never had a smartphone and really don't need one. I do not text. At all. (I hate it!)  I do not use social media (again, I hate it!) and I do not need a phone that connects to the internet. We have 4 computers in this house and both DH and I work from home. When I go out, it is to get *away* from work, and from the computer. :D

I also do not need a phone to make local calls. Once in a blue mood I'll call DH while I'm out shopping. This happens maybe 2x a month.  So I truly only need a phone to be a phone, and to be able to make calls from it to the USA, for a decent (read: cheap) price.

Any suggestions for a new provider/new plan and possibly a new phone that is not a smartphone, just a nice, upgraded version of a phone-phone? :D

I have a smartphone that I wouldn't be without so can't give you any advice on a new phone.

However you can use http://www.justcall.co.uk/en/cheap-calls/to/usa/ to call overseas for 1p per minute, which might be of some use once you work out which phone and plan suits you.

Maybe you can pull up prior posts that were on here about a month ago. It is a frequent subject on here. I also need some recommendations. I remember 'Orange' was one that was recommended.

Boss Revolution do calls to the USA for 0.5p per minute.  You can make calls to them from your mobile phone using your plan's inclusive minutes.
