I believe the majority, if not all, of the TV license fee goes to support the BBC. The BBC is like a super-duper version of PBS, but with more channels under the BBC umbrella. BBC channels do not show commercial advertisements.

And they don't do "pledge drives" what seems like every other month, either!  ;)

I'm fine with the terrestrial channels.  Don't have sky or digital or freeview or anything else.  Can't even get Channel 5 because of reception problems.  Been 2 years now and we've survived!  ;D

Just out of curiosity, is there not a lot of commercial advertising on TV there? Is that why there's a tax? TV without a lot of commercials...what a nice thought...

Apparently there is no commercials on BBC but they do advertise their own shows. To me, that's a commercial. I have to admit, it is kind of nice to watch a movie and not have any commericals break up the film.

We have Sky. I like it but still with all those channels we never have anything to watch! It's nice to have the movie channels. And the Paramount channel. Love. That. Channel. And then you have the real sleezy channels like E! which is good for a laugh.
There are two things in life for which we are never truly prepared:  twins.
