Phx/Atl to Leeds
« on: June 20, 2013, 11:15:08 PM »
My wife and I are relocating from the States to Leeds on July 10th! Lived in Phoenix, AZ for 29 years and then spent 6 months in Atlanta, GA before we leave. We have a two month old son so I guess he gets to experience all the UK has to offer as well. We moved for a job opportunity in the auto auction business and likely will be here for a couple years. Very excited, but very nervous!

Would love to meet some expats while we are in the UK if anyone is nearby. We'll be in Roundhay Leeds. Feel free to send a note if you're nearby!

Thanks!
Jonathan

Hi Jonathan!

I'm about 45 minutes north of Leeds in a tiny little place called Dishforth. I moved here at the end of March to be with my hubby (UK citizen) who is in the military. I was born in Phoenix and grew up in Tucson...and yes, I am a Wildcat ;)

I'm already missing the heat/sunshine and I'm longing for some legit Mexican food, but I am loving my new adventure. Send me a message once you're over and settled and perhaps we can try and meet up! Good luck! :)

Yes lots of us Leeds expats about - the majority of us are lifers (married to the natives) from the people I know...

Dewsbury here, about 15 mins away.
Good Luck on your new adventure...big transition but hang in there.

Hi,

My wife is a US citizen currently lives in Tucson AZ and I live in the UK I'm a British citizen serving in the RAF.  I see you recently got your UK visa so I was wondering if you could give me and my wife some much needed advice on the subject. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Your sincerely

Stuart

Hi Stuart,

Welcome to the forum :).

I believe there are currently certain exceptions for UK military personnel when it comes to meeting the financial requirements for a UK spousal visa (although I heard this may be changing soon).

A good place to start looking is the UKBA website, specifically this section: http://www.ukba.homeoffice.gov.uk/visas-immigration/partners-families/citizens-settled/spouse-cp/can-you-apply/

Out of curiosity, what do you do/where are you based in the RAF? I'm a civil servant, but I work on RAF bases... right now, I'm about 6 weeks into a 5-month deployment to the Falklands :).
