Good brand of boxed chocolates?
« on: June 21, 2013, 11:08:36 AM »
Hiya. We're invited to a dinner party tomorrow night and want to bring wine and chocolates (yeah, a bit boring, but we don't know what else to bring! Can't do flowers because the woman is allergic.)  Anyway, can anyone suggest some really high quality boxed chocolates that I could pick up locally?  I thought of Thorton's, but don't know any others.

Dw loves Lily O'Brians, they are Irish, they do a box of cupcake style chocolates, her daughter always asks for them. They sell them in Morrison's and probably available in other supermarkets as well. But can't really go wrong with Thornton's

I like http://www.charbonnel.co.uk/, but if you had time, you could fairly easily make your own, buy a jar and tie it with ribbon, or something quick like that.

Available in your local grocery - probably Thorntons or maybe Lindt, but heck - I'd eat Milk Tray or Roses etc - I looooove chocolate.

If you can get into Leeds to the arcades, then there's Charbonnel that MLG mentioned, very good! And my all time fave from arcade shop - Bon Bon chocolates. These two (Charbonnel & Bon Bon) are premium stuff - best you can get here before getting on a plane to Belgium! :)

We usually get Lindt or Green & Blacks for gifts.  :)  Although we've kind of overdone the Green & Blacks for packages to the US, so now we're on to Hotel Chocolate (but I've only seen proper stores for those.... not at supermarkets).  :)

If you get Green & Blacks, DH loves the cherry one and I like the butterscotch.  :)  They usually have little taster boxes at Sainsbury's.  :)

Oh yeah - G&B definitely good. Also love Hotel Chocolate but they are only sold in their shops (there's one in Leeds) or maybe online too.

Haven't tried Lauden.

Oh boy. Now I want some chocolates.   ;D  I wish I had more time to go shopping before tomorrow night but I have a work deadline today that I must meet, so I am pinned to the house.  I will have to see what I can find in town tomorrow morning, but have bookmarked the other places for future reference.

Thanks for all the yummy suggestions, everyone! :)

I'll second Lily O'Brien's. They're tasty and quite pretty!

Those Lauden chocolates sure are pretty.  I will be spoiled for choice with all these suggestions next time (when I have time to order or go to Leeds!)

Are Thorton's considered high quality, or just mid-quality?  I know I can get them in town at their shop. I know I can get Green & Blacks and I'm pretty sure I can get Lily's if they have them at our Morrison's. Lindt is hit or miss. I know this because I often have to search high and low to get them for my husband, who loves Lindt.

I'd eat a chocolate-covered SHOE, but these people (although we love them dearly) are food snobs. LOL!  I am the type who prefers a Mars/Milky Way bar over Godiva. :)

Good ole boxes of Marks and Spencer's Chocolates are yummy!
I like those Guylian chocolates as well.

Hotel chocolates are amazing as well, but no clue where you get these.
I've never gotten food on my underpants!

I love M&S chocolate as well.

I don't now if I've tried Guylian. I remember seeing it though.

Maybe I'll end up making a mixed basket. LOL
