Dressing for job interview
« on: June 25, 2013, 01:13:37 PM »
Soooo I've got this massive interview tomorrow with a publishing company that does the kinds of journals I've spent the last 10 years working for. Very excited. It's apparently a less formal, first-round-type interview.

I'm thinking smart dress, cardi, tights, cute, low-heeled ankle boots. Does that sound good?

The cardi will cover my tattoos. I'm on the fence about my nose piercing, which is tiny like this: http://www.ael-nose-studs.co.uk/nose%20stud%203.jpg Take it out? Or leave it, as I would for regular daily work in the office?

Yea! Congrats on the interview.  The outfit sounds cute.  I would take out the piercing.  I tend to go conservative (esp for the first impression).  Let's see what others say.  You better report back on the outcome!  Fingers crossed for ya~

I always err on the side of dressing conservative for an interview.  I'd rather be too professional than not professional enough.

Your outfit sounds fab and I would take out the piercing.

Good luck!!!!

I think the outfit sounds cute.  ;D

Personally, I would take out the piercing. It might not be an issue, but I wouldn't want to take the chance.

Thank you all for the feedback. Guess I'll yoink out the piercing before I walk in tomorrow and pop it back in when I leave. Easy! (Nose piercings can close quickly, even if they're long since healed, but this shouldn't hurt anything.)

Thank you, larrabee and phatbeetle! Not only did I NAIL it (had them laughing for most of the two hours), but I've got an interview Friday for another job.

Feeling ready to take on the world ... except for this dismal illness that has settled in my lungs, throat, ears and sinuses. BUT OTHER THAN THAT. :D

Just wanted to thank you again, phatbeetle and larrabee.

Despite a nasty coughing fit at the interview, they just asked me to come back in for round two on Monday morning. AND I've got an interview for another job (it's actually a job I've done before, but minus the interventional cardiology component) this afternoon.

Now off to buy more Lemsip, my best and dearest friend as I inch back to full health.

Doing my best. Wish I weren't on for 12 hours at the pub tomorrow and eight on Sunday, but I'm tough, like some sort of highly employable gladiator.
