...I didn't know about the graded produce thing, sorry to hear that Morrisons is a grade D.

Eh - I'm not bothered! :)  I buy most of our fruit there & the odd veg if we don't get something we want/need in the veg box. If whatever it is looks off (rotten/too unripe), I don't buy it. Or if I do buy it & it's not nice, I won't get that one again. They had lovely blood oranges from Sicily earlier this year that were amazing! And lately I'm digging on the Spanish nectarines - they need a bit of ripening in the fruit bowl first, but they're delicious! :)

Also, I wonder how much grading has to do with appearance, because there's that thing about how the great British public doesn't want to buy ugly - odd - irregular looking produce, which means far too much goes to waste. I don't care if it looks rude or whatever as long as it tastes nice. :)

Oh definitely--I don't care if it's just aesthetically a bit off--that doesn't matter at all!

We don't do the veg box because at the time we just kept on getting more and more and more potatoes and couldn't eat them all.  These days hubby hardly even wants potatoes at all (the carbs) so we'd really have an excess of them.

Andee - Riverford does a 'No Potatoes' box - it's the 'Seasons' box - we get it sometimes if we fancy the veg for it that week (and then we often add on potatoes, lol! DH *has* to have his potatoes). I'm sure you can get similar from Abel & Cole.

But a lot of people like to hand select your own & nothing wrong with that either. :)

I tend to shop at Sainsburys and Waitrose, but there is a massive Middle Eastern supermarket nearby, Cudi's, that I love. Their on-premise baked bread is divine and everything is so cheap.
It is difficult to speak adequately, or justly, of London. It is not a pleasant place; it is not agreeable, or easy, or exempt from reproach. It is only magnificent... the biggest aggregation of human life, the most complete compendium in the world.

When we first moved over I loved shopping at Tesco.  Now I can't stand it.
I will typically go to Aldi or Lidl and do what I can from the weekly shop there and then go to Sainsburys or Waitrose.
We have a large farmers market every other Sunday but I find it a bit too expensive.

Waitrose and Sains get most of my business if there are no independent shops in the area. I much prefer to put my money in the pockets of small business owners. But alas not all areas have them anymore. LittleMissSarcasm, if you are interested, you should read "Shopped: The Shocking Power of British Supermarkets" by Joanna Blythman. It's an interesting read.

When I visit with the in laws in Leicestershire, which I'll be doing for a month this summer (yay), we visit local farm shops and top up with Asda with the occasional M&S food (I love their wine).

I like to shop at different places for different things, but limited time sometimes gets in thr way. I like Asda for general stuff, there is a new giant Tesco now about a half mile away, and I find the prices comparable to Asda. I like to BBQ and my number one place for meat is Morrisons, they have the best butchers and their meats are cuts that are harder to find, like skirt or flat iron steaks.

I like to shop at Lidl (and want to try Aldi) as I like the prices and the quality, and the fact that the shops are small. My shop doesn't take a long time because I'm not faced with too many choices, and I don't get overwhelmed.

Tesco has my vote for when my daughter is visiting and I need to buy gluten free foods.

I actually loathe food shopping. Specialty items and odds and sods are from Waitrose - only 'cause I'm lazy and it's near. Though I do shop at the Asian supermarket in the city centre, if I get homesick for Asian snacks, noodles and such like.  [smiley=2thumbsup.gif]

Sainsburys and Waitrose usually have what we need. For prepacked meat, I like Waitrose the best.

We have a market in town, but it opens after I start work and closes before I finish. When I can get there, the quality of the meat and the produce is amazing and so damned cheap. The council is moving the market to the other side of the city centre, and hoping with the new complex, we'll get earlier and longer shopping hours. I know a lot of workers coming home from town would rather go there than the big chain supermarket

We shop at our local Morrison's for two reasons. because it's a 2 minute walk away and because my Mum works there so we get 10% with her card.

We do buy all our fruit and veg at a local town market though. It's cheaper, fresher and supports local farmers.
