Razor-wielding lunatics?
« on: June 28, 2013, 11:57:10 AM »
Just bought a shaving razor for the first time here. Why, oh why, do they keep them out of public reach, along with the hard liquor and cigarettes? Are the three equivalent? Do they think I'm going to get drunk and full of nicotine, and start some sort of vigilante gang that roams the streets of London forcibly removing the mustaches of strangers?

Because people steal them.

Well, that's boring. I was hoping to get in with an illicit grooming group.

...an illicit grooming group.

Ummmm...this means a little something different over here - quite negative connotations attached to the word...  [smiley=lipsrsealed2.gif]

I learnt that the hard way when I once said something at work about 'grooming' new employees (for the job) & got a range of responses - 'WOT?!!!!' Sniggering & outright laughter...  :P

Am I the only one who thinks those expensive multi-blade razors are a rip off. I mean who needs five separate razor blades?

Well, depending on your line of business ... might land you in the crosshairs of Operation Yewtree, though.

(But that was part of the reason for the word choice and pairing it with 'illicit', because of the two meanings. I think I'm learning that a serious forum is not a place for wordplay. I will do better to keep it to the pub!)

I would agree with you if I were a dude (I think, although I'm not sure how hard it is to shave a face). But I buy the five-blade man-razors, because (a) it's faster for the vast expanse presented by legs and (b) I find they actually do better on knees, which are my trouble spot. By which I mean I somehow manage to both leave tufts AND need a blood transfusion afterwards.

It's no worries, hms_seahorse!  :)

I only meant to mention it, because I wasn't aware of the other meaning here when I first used the word & I walked right into it!  :P

So I didn't want someone else to do that - I've already taken that bullet for my fellow expats.  :)

And you're right, it's tough to 'read' all the nuances of meaning on a screen sometimes! And yeah, we take ourselves far too seriously on here too much of the time - I'd agree with that 100%! :)

And I also like the multi-blade razors for shaving my legs - ugh, I hate shaving!  :P

Just last week somebody on here called me "sh*t head". Maybe it was meant in a good way? Like a term of endearment?

For the record...Denis never called me a "sh*t head".

Well now, you can't throw that bit of info out there and not explain what it means! :D Inquiring minds and all that...
