I didn't mean to offend, it just sounded like no one could find coffee makers and had to either use a press or make instant. :-\\\\

I got the same impression, don't worry. Lol. I haven't even looked for coffee makers myself, because good ol' Nescafe is good enough for me in the mornings. As long as it does the trick! ;D

i searched high and low for one with a timer (well, maybe not high and low at the time, selfridges, argos, m&s) to no avail.

i bought ours at selfys, a plain drip one.  then 2 days later we hit john lewis and there they were!  if i'd only continued down oxford a little!

but it does the job.  DH is my coffee timer, he makes it almost every morning for me.  :)

I just get completely amazed at the things that people think the UK doesn't even have - like coffee makers.  It is a developed industrialised nation, you know.  And it would never have occurred to me that they wouldn't have coffee makers here.  :-X

It's not that some of us think the UK doesn't have certain things, we just need to know where to look to find them. It would be the same if a British citizen came here and was looking for real British food, or an American over there trying to find authentic Mexican food. (where I'm from we have a large Mexican community so I've grown accustomed to the food) Here in the midwest British food seems to be hard to find.  :\\\'( Another example would be a plastic electric kettle to boil water in for tea or instant coffee. I've looked everywhere here for one of those but can't seem to find one. Maybe it's just a matter of looking in the right places.
Coffee, whether it's instant or freshly brewed in a coffee maker isn't an issue with me, it's what I like to put in it. I'm used to the flavored liquid creamers by Coffee Mate and International Delight, but believe me I can adjust, I just need my caffiene in the morning to get me going  ::)

I forgot how much I liked my vanilla flavoured coffee-mate until my parents came. They can't drink coffee without it and brought us a small jar. It just barely lasted the 2 weeks they were here.  :(

So no more for me.

Oh well. I prefer tea now anyways.

Kay65.. Target sells electric UK style tea kettles and then sometimes Walmart....

They are hidden but they are there.
:)  Not too expensive either!

Of course... now you will have one once you hit Scotland for sure!

My flatmate & I got a great coffee maker at Argos with a timer & everything - I set it up to start at 6:30am and it's ready for me after my shower!  I LOVE it...and I'm glad that I can get good coffee over here as well at Sainsbury!  Hate instant coffee...as I grew up on freshly ground sort.

When we can't do real coffee, we do the following.

Use Nescafe Gold Blend Instant. Put 2 teaspoons into a mug.
Fill a separate mug 1/2 with milk 1/2 with water, then dump it into a saucepan.
Heat on really low heat until the top gets frothy.
Dump the milk over the coffee, but use a knife to keep the froth in the saucepan until the last minute.
Then dump the froth on top. Should be a great big dallop.

Makes instant VERY drinkable. :)

And it is great with some chocolate chip cookies.

Thank you for that!!!!  Makes it YUMMY!!!!!  I'm too lazy to pull out the French Press, but I may go to Argos (One in town, now John Lewis) and get a timer one!!!  I just bought one at Starbucks for my parents in NY, hmmm, maybe they have them here as well!  Speaking of Coffee,

Mindy!!!!  When are we meeting up again!!!!

I sprinkle a generous amount of Christmas Spice seasoning in my instant coffee every morning, along with the single cream. LUSH.

Well, I've only been back in the States less than two full days, I went to a little coffee shop I used to go to to get coffee and got some.  You know, I would have rather had silly ol' instant.  Oh, the coffee was fine, it was very tasty, in fact...like I knew it would be.  But...it just wasn't "right" anymore...not when I want to be HOME with my HUSBAND so badly. :([/font]
