Cary, NC to Shropshire
« on: July 02, 2013, 04:36:44 PM »
Hi everyone! I just got my spousal visa yesterday so I thought I would go ahead and introduce myself! I am from California, grew up in NC, went to school at University of South Carolina and now I am headed to the UK for a few years.

My husband is in the military and after working in Afghan myself for 2 years, I went over in December to stay with him to see where the relationship went. With possible deployment on the horizon we decided to get married and had a small ceremony in sleepy little Shropshire.  I came back to apply for my visa and now I get to go back.

I have been fortunate and found a job in fundraising which I start Monday. It took me about 4 months to find a job and I found one I love,  and is kind of similar to what I was doing before!

If anyone is in the Shropshire area I would love to meet for coffee or a pint - I miss talking to my cheerful Americans while I am there (didn't realize we actually had an accent until I came home). Likewise, any military families around the area or in Poole!

Thanks to everyone who has helped me with this move so far! Im sure I will be asking y'all many more questions!

Welcome!

I grew up in CA (Bay area) and lived in Durham (NC) before moving to London.

a refugee from the Containment Area (For) Relocated Yankees...AKA, Cary NC. Enjoy Shropshire! I'm originally from just north of Winston-Salem. A former friend (long story) has lived in Cary for 20+ years, and another real friend lives in a part of Cary that was annexed a few years back (just off 1010), so I know the area pretty well.

Will be a big change, but a good one for you I hope.
Married December 1992 (my 'old flame' whom I first met in the mid-70s)
1st move to UK - 1993 (Letter of Consent granted at British Embassy in Washington DC)
ILR - 1994 (1 year later - no fee way back then!)
Back to US in 2000
Returned to UK July 2011 (Spousal Visa/KOL endorsement)
ILR - September 2011
Application for naturalization submitted July 2014
Approval received 15-10-14; ceremony scheduled for 10 November!
Passport arrived 25 November 2014. Finally done!

Thanks! I absolutely love how clean and comfortable and easy Cary is so England was a big change for me already.  Like not being able to get everything at one store or the giant fresh produce or being warm/tan. The Husband is now in love with Cary and even celebrated his first 4th of July last night. The plan right now is to move back after this next enlistment but for now its time to have an English adventure! Life is what you make it so I am going to try to make this a great adventure!
