Hello Max76,

Welcome! I am a newcomer as well. I moved here to Stockport (Cheshire East) on June 16. I too came from Atlanta, GA! Where did you live? I was in Johns Creek, grew up in Dunwoody and born in Rochester, NY  ;D. I am lucky in that my girlfriend from high school moved to Cheshire with her husband 14 years ago so I have my BFF living not to far from me. Sounds like you will like Cheshire a lot better but it is true, it is far from being similar to the USA. Since I am not driving yet, I don't think the short business hours have hit me yet. Otherwise, I would miss that late night run to Target! Oh and I miss Trader Joes! And iced tea!... That is crazy about not being aloud to buy a cellphone! That would do me in for certain  ::)

Bye for now,
Nikki

I lived in Switzerland for a few years... Absolutely loved it. But none of those things you mention bothered me at all. I just can't get that upset about the size of my fridge. haha

It sounds like you are moving to a lovely place though. All the best with your move.

We are moving to the UK from the Atlanta area as well. Right now we live in Decatur and plan to stay here [in this house, even] until the big move. My husband is from E Yorkshire, but I doubt he'll be able to find any work up there.  We are looking at the Manchester and Worcester areas.  I, too, am looking forward to the move, as it's too hot and there's too much traffic!  I am staying home with my kids, so the shop hours most likely won't be a problem for me.  Plus I don't shop much.

I'm sure it will be nice to have slightly milder weather, less restrictions, nicer people, and a bigger house! I just hope we can find a house of similar size to ours [we live right in town, so it's pretty small], and I'll be happy to say adios to the massive yard.

Good luck! And enjoy your new English Speaking world ;)

ps. Seems like a lot of people on here are from Atlanta. Wonder what's up wit that?
