Best towns to live in the UK?
« on: August 07, 2013, 08:22:38 PM »

Hi guys, Our stint in Denmark will soon be ending and we will be moving back to the Uk.We are both from the US ,and before Denmark we lived in Whitely,Hampshire. This time we can pretty much live any where in the UK. We don't have school age children, but we do need to be near transportation and a larger airport.I would like a place with decent shopping and not too far out in the country. What would be your favorite place to live and why?

Thanks for any help you can give me , Lena

Hiya
I'm in the Fife region of Scotland, between Dunfermline and Kirkcaldy. Its about a 40 min drive to Edinburgh Airport.
I love it here in Fife.. Been here in my present flat for 7 years.. before that rented in Dunfermline and my first three years in Scotland 99-2002 I lived up in Aberdeen lovely city but way to cold and grey for me.. they don't call it the granite city for nothing lol.
Thats my 2p lol..
I have only lived in Scotland so can't comment at all about living in England. Scotland was always where I wanted to be.. :)

I've lived in South Manchester for years and I love it, it's got s big city feel with great suburbs, all the mod cons, a fantasic shopping mall in the Trafford Centre, easy access to so much beautiful countryside. I really love living here!

Hi

You'll get many responses saying where they live and why they love it as examples !

Take a look at your current and expected lifestyle and choices you have or might perhaps be wanting to make and then begin to shortlist potential suitable villages, towns and cities you think may suit. Research those some more and narrow the ones which are best until you have perhaps 3/4 places?

The 'larger' airport helps narrow it down already though - Heathrow (Gatwick, Luton & City for the London area), Birmingham, Manchester, Glasgow perhaps being the best choices for flights that regularly serve the US which also give you the best choices and availability.

Very recently, I've been very pleasantly surprised at the area called Finchhampstead  which is near/around the Reading, Camberly and Bracknell areas - wouldn't mind living around there! :)

Cheers, DtM! West London & Slough UK!
