New Jersey to Cheshire to New Jersey to Cheshire
« on: August 12, 2013, 05:45:21 AM »
Hi Everyone,

I'm new to this site so wanted to introduce myself. (Actually found this site last year but just recently started using it.) I'm 44 years old. Married my British Husband in fall of 2011. I have 4 children all boys Yikes!  Ages 22, 17, 3 and 14 months. My eldest children are from my previous relationship and opted to stay in the US ( That was the first tough blow). Currently i'm back in the US but anticipate being back in England by mid Sept. I've been to England many times before and finally moved there on a fiance visa in summer of 2011.  Got married after a long...long distance relationship. We had our second child shortly after..  However due to oversight and stupidity on both my husband and my part returned to US to start the spouse visa process over again blah... It's hasn't been easy. I  miss hubby and our home.  :\\\'(

I  lived in several countries growing up as a child so i didn't think moving would be difficult. However, living in England  has been a bit of a challenge for me. There are many things that take quite a bit of time to get use too. I won't get into all those things here, as this is a welcome page. I'll save it for the airing cupboard. Although the weather in particular is a major one (It never gets warm!) I don't think I can ever really get use to it.

I live in Wistaston, Nantwich/Crewe area of Cheshire. It's lovely and picturesque but can be quite dull as well. I hope upon returning to England I would be able to meet some new people in the area. I don't drive there yet, so getting around is a bit difficult with two small children.

Looking forward to new and better beginnings second time around..

Anyone with ideas on making the transition a little easier second time around? Do share. There are many wonderful things I love about England, but it doesn't make it any easier. Additionally any brave souls that drive.. how long did it take to get comfortable? I'm feeling very intimidated/nervous about driving on the opposite side.

Thanks..

Hi Sabina,

I', 43, living in the UK now for a bit over a month. So far so good. There are challenges, but I try not to let differences get to me too much as I think that would be soul crushing. I try to focus on the things I really like here and that helps me a lot.

I totally relate to your comment about your sons - my 18 year old son opted to stay in the US and I miss him terribly.

My FIL lives in Cheshire and I think there are many lovely towns there. There are neat places to visit, too, so you should probably learn to drive here ASAP so you can take the little ones to see things!  I don't drive here, yet. So far I don't need to as I commute via train to London for work and can walk to the high street for smaller shopping trips.  At the weekend my husband does the driving.  :-[ I will learn eventually, but so far it hasn't been to much of a bother!

Good luck with your visa process. I hope you guys are reunited very soon.  :)

Hi Juzebelle,

So nice to hear from you.  Glad you're faring well in-light of the obstacles. Such positive attitude is wonderful! I hope to adjust better second time around myself.

I'm relishing my time with my boys now (although i do miss dh). I know soon it will be holidays only.

Cheshire is lovely. I don't think I have had a chance to appreciate all it has to offer. Maybe if and when I start driving I'll get around a bit more. Still uneasy about driving there though. I guess as with anything else it takes time.

Thanks for wishing me luck.  Hopefully all will be over soon.
