Who else is watching?

Who are your favourites so far?

I've just ordered an angel food cake tin and can't wait to make one!

Me!  I love it, but it's too early for favourites.  I need at least until the third episode to get a good idea of what people's personalities and skills are.

This. I was a bit bored with the first episode - too many people for there to be any thorough coverage! The guy who put salt instead of sugar in his cake - gaaaah?!! Really?! I mean really?! You have the chance to even just get on Bake Off and you do that?!  ::)

I always pick a favourite at the very beginning, before they even start baking, just based on what they look like. (What? Me ... shallow?)  Because of the cardigan and the messy hair, two things I'm always partial to, I picked Toby. He was the salt cake man. Ooops.

I like Ali because he seems a bit silly and Ruby because I have a feeling that she's going to freak out (if the first ep is anything to go by) and drop a cake. I tend to like the Bake Off misfits.

I'm also going to make a Chocolate Guinness cake soon and a NY crumb cake!

Lol! It's just a friend of mine over by Cardiff applied for Bake Off - her cakes are always amazing (she made one once for me with decorated shortbread Daleks & everything on it!), and she didn't make it through. And I think if she ever got lucky enough to get a place on, I'm sure she wouldn't put salt in her cake... so where did this guy roll up from?!  :P

I like to think I wouldn't either, but I can't imagine the pressure! Who knows what we'd do?!?!

I was amazed they made an angel food cake.  No one here makes them, or even knows what they are.  I make them at work and everyone loves them and always asks for the recipe.

It was obvious from the show that they didn't know, because who in the world would grease an angel food cake?  I usually take a little bit of paper towel with lemon juice and rub the inside of my bowl and tin just to make sure the grease is off. (Which probably doesn't work, but it is what my Nana did.)

Maybe if people don't make them here (ordinarily), this isn't obvious?  :)

Oh I just reread & my comment is a silly repeat of what you said.  :P  It's not the first time my blonde brain has not fully engaged.  ;)

I've obviously heard of angel food and have eaten plenty of angel food cakes in my time, but I've never (yet!) made one myself, so I'm not sure I'd know not to grease the tin. I think I'd probably just grease it without giving it a second thought!

Yeah, it's been so long since I made one (and always with a mix in the US) - it wouldn't be obvious to me, but I'd count on a full recipe to help me & I think they don't get that (not a complete one?) on Bake Off, do they?

Angel food cakes are so good with strawberries & cream!

No, you're right. I think the recipe is a bit vague so they have to work some things out for themselves.

Frances is my favourite already - admittedly I do love squirrels!
