Real imported US pickles
« on: August 29, 2013, 05:40:52 PM »
Pickles! Real honest to GOD imported US pickles with no sugar and no mustard and dill and garlic in a big jar at M&S. I actually stopped some guy in a suit and told him how excited I was.

My only issue is that I wish they were a little crunchier. And cheaper, but I guess I don't need that many jars. They are in the imported food section.

I'm so pleased that DW doesn't have this hang up over pickles...she's fine with the Polish ones we can get at Lidl.
Then again, she does have a "Sweet n low" habit, anyone comes over or we go there and she has to have loads of the stuff, because the sweetener here just doesn't match up....but get this. Her daughter (23) has visited us 3 times, and she really prefers a budget sweetener from Morrison's....so now we bloody trade sweeteners! One of these days we are going to get stopped at customs with this white powder!

I just can't find a Polish pickle I like.

I know where I'm going this pay day for my US pickle fix! ;)

We don't have a Lidl and the Aldi is very inconvenient.  All the polish ones I have tried just weren't dilly enough and had sugar.  Some were really soft, which is gross.

You can also get Heinz chips on Amazon (http://www.americanpantryuk.com/?page_id=248), but I'm super excited about the M&S find. I get some pickles from the kosher section at Costco and they are alright, but yours sound better.

I really missed dill pickles when I moved here and still think about the huge dill pickles they sell at county fairs in the US. I tried sainsburys vinegar ones and eventually came to like them with fish and chips here. When back in the US I love having a garlic pickle with a sandwich !!

I'm headed to the local M & S tomorrow to see if they carry these! I've been wasting a lot of money trying all the brands of pickles that look good but taste terrible. thanks for posting!

I've looked at every M&S food shop I've come across, both large and small. Not one is carrying these pickles.  :(

Really? Both the ones in my area are.  Maybe they figure there are a lot of US students in Cambridge?

I also picked up some Cream-Nut natural peanut butter which is pretty good too, also at M&S.

If it makes you feel any better, I have been to every Tesco in a 20 mile radius to try and find peanut butter Oreos.  Some place in London has them I think. Sigh.

I've looked in London, Billericay and Basildon to no avail.  :(

I saw some PB Oreos in Tesco the other day. Someday we should all meet up and swap for the items we want and can't find near us!

I will look for the Polish dills, though. I picked up some sauer kraut as I want to try to make reuben sandwiches - not sure about their weird pressed and formed corned beef here, though? I might try with pastrami instead.

I was in the London Bayswater M&S today and they didn't have them. I ended up buying some lush looking Colombian hot chocolate instead.  ;D

Look for 'salt beef' which I have seen in thin slices before next to other deli meat
