I recommend you find an outlet center...like Clark's Village or something similar. Excellent prices...well worth a drive too. I've recently discovered a few British stores that I have come to fall in love with...Weird Fish, Monsoon, Triumph...just to name a few...(2 of those 3 are women's stores...sorry!) but it just takes time to look and find what suits you! Hope you were able to get it taken care of.

Hi everyone! I'm a (male) postgrad student who arrived in the UK about a week ago to study at Durham. I'll be needing to do a little clothes shopping soon, and looking around the city centre, there mostly seems to be higher-end clothing stores. What are some British equivalents to something like Old Navy? You know...somewhere with decent guy's clothes that aren't super expensive? Thanks  ;D

Head to Sunderland or Newcastle, more choice.

H&M, Primark, TK Maxx that sort of thing.

Whereabouts in Durham are you living?  There is an outlet place not far away at Murton too which has a next outlet, amongst others.  Some of the supermarket stuff isn't too bad either, depending on how fussy you are, Tesco's F&F and Sainsburys TU etc.

Van Midert in Durham (high end store) always have a half price sale on the day after Christmas, that might be worth a look too.

Sunderland or Newcastle will be your best bet though, depending on where you live.
