Unemployed and no more educating to look forward to
« on: September 16, 2013, 10:25:03 AM »
This is just a vent. I feel pretty useless right now. Just got rejected for a job as a kitchen assistant. Yesterday was refused as a boots Christmas temp and a cleaning position. There are many more but i wont list them all. I've gone for help on making my cv and cover letter better. I don't know why I'm getting rejected for everything.

The years before that when I was getting nothing but rejection, at least I had uni to keep me busy. Now I literally have nothing except for exercise but that is hard when it's this cold.

I can't find a single job in the field that I actually want to work in (forensic psychology). So the best I'm hoping for is a carer position as lecturers always said that being in that line of work can be a stepping stone.

I have an interview for a health care position today and really hope I get it. I hope to get any job for that matter. Anything that pays me would be nice. I love the volunteer work that I do but it doesn't pay the bills.

Anyways thanks for letting me vent on here and good luck in everyone's job search.

Well normally, it would be suggested to volunteer, get UK experience, etc -But since you're already volunteering, have UK schooling, etc - all I can do is wish you good luck. So I hope all goes quickly and you find a job soon!  :)

Cold!?!

Yeah and rainy. I like to run but not so much in the rain.

My interview went okay. The interviewer said that my cv impressed her and it was her favorite of the applicants so far which gave me a huge boost but then later things didn't go so well. Like when she said my volunteer experience doesn't count for much as this job is much harder than what I told her I'm getting experience in. While I understand that, I didn't know how to respond to that. I'm told I'll know if I made the cut tomorrow.

Meanwhile, I have two more interviews so things are looking up :)

I'm sorry to hear that your volunteer experience wasn't being respected. That's a bit rough and unfair.  :-\\\\

You could say something like, 'Yes, the volunteer post offers me a chance to stretch my skills  in x, y, z way and I am looking forward to having this role do the same for a, b and c reasons. I recognise different experiences can help me grow professionally.'

It really sounds like you are working hard at looking for work. Keep at it! Hope you have yourself a little something to look forward to tonight after the hard work of an interview.  :)

Thanks for your advice and encouragement as always mapleleafgirl. I bought a new nail polish as a treat today after the interview. It cheered me up  :P.

Hi guys,

I didn't get the job unfortunately. But an agency did ask me to register with them the day after the failed interview and gave me two temp jobs for a few weeks (one in the morning and one in the evening). I'm happy to be working even though I'm exhausted. Only problem is a different agency has expressed interest in me for positions closely related to my dream career. I'm all booked in for work even on the weekends. Do you think if I just miss one day of my temping, they won't keep assigning me work and label me as unreliable? Of course I'd call ahead of time and everything. I just don't want to miss the opportunity for a dream job! The recruiter said he wants to register me and try to match me to several jobs so a job is not guaranteed in my field but I'm hoping it will eventually lead to better things.

Also if I miss one day to interview with the other agent, what should I say as my reason for not being able to go to work one day?

Thanks for any advice!

Just give them as much notice as you can. I'd give them the economical truth: I have an appointment I can't shift.

When you see Agent B, you can ask about when shifts / posts might become available and when and scale back Agent A work accordingly, with as much notice as possible, to take shifts not in conflict with Agent B, if that makes sense.

Also depends on your personal financial situation. Have you spoken with Mr GG? His thoughts?

Thanks. I've told agency A on Friday and asked them to find someone to cover me for that one day I'll be missing. agent B told me he's hoping to find me something permanent in the field I qualify in which would be great. Not really sure though. I've heard a lot of agents say good things but even after calling them up many times, they just never delivered.

Agency A has given me two jobs in one day and both are physically challenging (I'm on my feet running around for 12 hours a day). For the next three weeks I don't have a single day off (except that one day I've asked for). I'm hoping this hard work leads to better things. They said that the type of work I'm looking for sometimes comes up on their website and that they will let me know when they get something. I hope they're not just saying that to me.

Sounds like you are working very hard!  :-\\\\ Rest is important for well-being. I really hope you are OK and worry you'll burn yourself out.   :-\\\\

I hope your volunteer work is at least providing some satisfaction.  :)

Yeah I'm feeling pretty depressed. I feel like I'm working hard for nothing. I keep calling the agency up so that they consider me for jobs in my field which there are 2 on the website and they just keep saying they'll get back and they're busy but they never do. Makes me feel like they know I'll do all the horrible jobs so will keep passing those onto me. I don't even have time to volunteer these days. I told them I'll come back when I next get a break. :(

They gave DH some pretty crappy work too. He worked for 13 hours yesterday and feels just as crappy as I do. I don't know why neither of us can ever find work in our field. This economy is very depressing.
