MIL has had virgin FOREVER and we DH hasnt had a problem since February with them. They have been great since I have been here.  We have vonage for the home phone, £9.60 a month and unlimited UK landlines and free calls to the US.  Free calls to some other countries but I am not sure what they are.  Saves having to pay a line rental fee :)

I think how your internet is depends on where you live and what's available. When we first got over here in 2012 we took Sky. At the time, we were unable to get unlimited internet usage so after a certain point our speeds went right down...it was a major pain. A few months later, unlimited broadband with no usage caps arrived in our village and we've not had a problem since.
We have the broadband, phone, and tv package (entertainment package with sky+ hd box) I just looked at this upcoming bill and its 61.00 because we made an unusual amount of daytime phone calls last month, but normally its around 57.00.

Thanks again, everyone. I am taking everyone's suggestions and comments into consideration.

Dennis - I live in West Yorkshire and no, not a rural area. Regardless, I know we can't get super-fast service, but at night our service goes down to 2 megablips-whatever it is called. So, barely enough to do *anything*.

We *do* actually have a pro/business plan and line. Hubby set it up as soon as he moved here. That is why it is so aggravating to boot!

I know we can't get super-fast service,

High speed broadband is available down here where we live, but if you choose it, there's a cap on bandwidth. For us, it wasn't worth the trade-off, so we've stuck with our slightly-less-than-high-speed.

I didn't even get that high a speed at any time in my old house. I didn't live in a very good area for broadband and I had it through Sky (not fibre optic) - the maximum speed I could get at any time was 1.3 MB.

Files that would take 3-5 minutes to download using my parents' high-speed internet would take about 90 minutes using my internet connection!
