Egg Nog!
« on: October 09, 2013, 10:49:25 PM »
I couldn't help myself. I bought 4liters of Egg Nog yesterday on Amazon. It was already on backorder, so I hope it comes in on time for Thanksgiving! I'm not normally a huge fan of the stuff, but it just isn't the holidays without at least a glass or two!

What are you doing to prep for the holidays?

Sometimes I make eggnog but, although we do like it, we drink so little of it that it's hardly worth doing. A little nog goes a long way!

Nothing, really.
It's just the 2 of us, so we don't go nuts over Christmas, and certainly not as early as October!
Late November, though, we will start trying to decide what we want to eat for our Christmas Dinner.  We usually change our minds a couple of times before the big day.

We're cutting back on parcels sent to the US after several packages not being acknowledged or taking forever to get there.   ::)

But I've already gotten a head start on cards.   ;D  It's waaaaay early but John Lewis has their Christmas section up already so I poked around while DH was in the computer section.   ;D  I found two boxes of Christmas cards that I really liked, so I got them!

They're a bit pricey for boxed cards, but they'll go to family (who better appreciate them!)... a bit of a trade off since they won't get packages.  :)  They're subtley UK/London with tiny red double decker buses tucked in there.  :)

This one's a bit more obvious with what looks like Big Ben, black cabs, the London Eye, the Shard, Tower of London and St Paul's cathedral, but it would be really easy to not notice them and just see a nice wintery city scene.  :)

(they look a lot nicer in person- more delicate than the pics online look with lots of glitter which my brother will hate but that's his problem  ::) )

Egg Nog, bleurgh!  [smiley=puke.gif]

Haha - Advocaat, now that's different!  :D  We have Advocaat in an extra boozy Snowball - instead of lemonade, however, my BIL mixes them with Smirnoff Ice alcopops. That's an 'only on Christmas Day before dinner' drink for us.  [smiley=drunk.gif]

I haven't done really any Christmas holiday prep - it's way too early for me, lol!

I've still got to get through DH's birthday celebration (next week) - but I've ordered some things for him, a few of which I may hold back for Christmas, as he's getting a really nice meal out this Saturday.

Then Halloween & Guy Fawkes Day!

Then our Thanksgiving!

Then I'll start thinking about Christmas.  :)  We go to my in-laws for it & so DH and I don't do much decorating or putting up a tree or anything as we're not home at Christmas anyway - but will have to think about pressies & cards, etc.

I am really looking forward to New Year's this time, however, as we're going to Amsterdam again for that - 10 years since DH took me there for the first time, the New Year's before we married.  [smiley=love.gif]

LOL...we made some last year and it was VERY yummy, but like you said, a little goes a long way! Looking forward to the stuff my mom gets over in the States this year. She usually goes in about Sept time and orders a case because they sell out at the NH liquor stores that fast!  ;D

Hmmm, I've never heard of Advocaat. May have to check into that. I'm normally not a big prepper for Christmas this far in advance either. My family usually just wings it at the last moment. But then I saw the Egg Nog on Amazon and thought I'd better buy some now, to make sure I can get some before the holidays.

My OH just put in to have Thanksgiving Day off, so I don't what we're going to do for that just yet. Not sure what we're doing for Christmas yet either, since my FIL actually has to work that day.

Another good thing to do with Advocaat - as we always end up with some left over...

Well two good things! You can add it to custard in trifle - mmmmm.

And where was I? I think when we were in Berlin or maybe in Poland, it was offered as a boozy addition to coffee - you know, like Baileys, but Advocaat instead. Now, I'm not sure if that would be good or not, but I mean to definitely try it sometime!  :)

I was trying to explain advocaat and snowballs to my Mom and she thought it sounded like the most vile thing ever.  I quite like a snowball, but I only like them in small doses, its not something I could drink loads of- 1 or 2 during the Christmas season does the trick for me.

Certainly no Christmas prep here yet.......

Yes! That's why it's strictly a pre-Christmas dinner cocktail for us - it's tradition.  :)

Egg nog would be the last thing I would ever stock up on.  Like never ever! (Each to his/her own)

DH bought a package of charity Christmas cards yesterday.  We're done.

For those who are trying to prep early for Christmas, I saw boxes of peppermint candy canes in Home Bargains today for 79p.  Someone on UKY made something called 'peppermint bark' (or something like that) last year and it sounded interesting!

My peppermint bark is the only American Christmas treat I make that the English seem to enjoy.   ;D

Haven't found anyone even willing to try a Peanut Butter Kiss (the peanut butter cookies with a hershey kiss in the middle).    ::)  Oh, well, more for me!   ;)
