I asked about statements and thought I'd link that to this thread: http://talk.uk-yankee.com/index.php?topic=84067.0

PS... Made me chuckle when I read you were a meteorologist and not working in the visa field! I can't think of anything more different! As always, thanks for your continued help, and to everyone else who has helped too. Invaluable.  :D

Just remembered that you posted this (I was really busy last weekend and just glanced at it). Yeah, I'm a meteorologist - nothing to do with visas or immigration, except that I frequent this website in my spare time :).

I originally found the forum when I was looking up some information about how someone might move to the UK for work (for a fictional story), and then, since I had lived in both the UK and the US (I was an international student in the US 11 years ago), I figured I could help out with questions about the differences between UK and US universities. I was also in the process of applying for a US visa to attend grad school in the US.

Anyway, I read the forums, saw how people were applying for their visas, made myself familiar with the UKBA (now UKVI) website, and then after a few months, was able to help people out with visa questions based on what the official guidance said and what people were experiencing here at UK-Y. Fast forward a few years and I'm still here doing it (a few of the more knowledgeable people have since left the site, so there aren't many of us still around who know the rules really well)  :P.

Well, I'm glad you're still around in that case! Fantastic support and I think you were right about us not needing an immigration lawyer, as the advice has been in-depth. As long as I have everything to hand, I'm hopeful we will get there!

Hiya folks, need to help drive a friend of mine and his stuff to a new home in Florida. Can I still make my biometrics appointment their or do I need to get it done in Washington which is where I currently live. If the visa is approved I can fly from Miami to London.

You can do the biometrics anywhere you like - I believe the website will initially give you choices close to where you live, but you should be able to book an appointment at any of the 129 USCIS Application Support Centers across the US.

However, how will you get the visa if you are at a friend's house in Florida and not at your house in Washington?

They will only mail it to the address you put on your application, which presumably will be your Washington address (and you may need to sign for it when it arrives), so you would need to be in Washington to get the visa (and you should check it for errors before you book any flights, in case it needs to be sent back to Sheffield to be corrected).

Can a trusted friend sign for it here in Washington? Ups doesn't check id at least in this tiny town. Hmm maybe easier to just fly back to Washington. LoL. :)

So, so frustrating waiting for the statements. I'm hoping they will arrive tomorrow/early next week. At this rate, if the visa is granted, we won't be together until January. Bang go my dreams of Christmas together :(

Booking the biometrics appointment today and there doesn't seem to be a choice for priority processing of the documents. Am I missing something?

No, you're not missing anything. You can't purchase priority processing when you apply online, you do it later on from a different website.

If you want to purchase it, you have to go to the VFS Global website and buy it from there when you are ready  to mail the application to Sheffield. I don't have the link on me for the VFS site as I'm on my phone at the moment.

FINALLY.  After a couple of months of delays, I have all of our documentation in front of me! I'd like to send it out today by Royal Mail Special Delivery.. My OH had his biometrics appointment on 30/12, so I should really send it in asap. Please wish us luck! Also on a separate post.
