My husband-to-be has his court date tomorrow, so fingers crossed it's all either finalised then or very soon after, then he can apply online.

Does he have to have a face-to-face meeting anywhere during his application? I believe Seattle is five hours drive away.

Also, how do they take payment? Can he pay by card or from his account? I wanted to use my credit card from here.

Nope, no face-to-face meeting or anything - the application is processed entirely in Sheffield, so it's not possible for them interview him in person from 6,000 miles away :).

The only thing he has to do in person is attend a biometrics appointment at a local USCIS Application Support Center, but that's just 5-10 minutes where they check his ID, stamp his biometrics confirmation sheet and take his fingerprints and photo. It's done by US immigration on behalf of UKVI, so they have nothing to do with his actual application.

The payment is taken online by debit/credit card at the time of submitting the online application. The fee will be quoted in US dollars (currently $1,513), but I think there may be a currency conversion fee depending on whether you pay with a US or UK card (someone mentioned a fee when paying with a US debit card, but I don't recall anyone else saying they had to pay a fee).

LOL! That would be an interesting trip for him!

Do you think we would be able to use my card from here? The only thing I can see is that the billing address and name are mine.

Thanks as always for your help ☺

You can use any card you like, in anyone's name - makes no difference. As long as the fee is paid, it doesn't matter who pays it.

It's worth letting your bank know that you will be making a large transaction though, especially if it's processed in the US, as some people have had issued with their banks blocking the payment due to fraud protection.

I had my biometrics in Seattle (near SeaTac) but there are also USCIS centres in Spokane and Yakima. Those are probably easier if he's on the east side on the Cascades unless there's one in Idaho or Oregon that's closer. He'll get a list of nearest centres when he books his appointment.

Yep East side, Walla Walla. So Spokane is definitely easier. Thanks!

We had no problem paying with my husband's UK debit card a couple of weeks ago.  We did it while Skyping so that he could answer all of the security questions, etc.

That's great! Phew!

How did you find the form? My hubby-to-be has dyslexia so we may have to use Hangouts/Tango/Skype ourselves as it may be overwhelming, and one of the reasons we were considering using a lawyer.

Great news, isn't it?! So once you get your official paperwork through, we need to tackle the form....!

If you both have a good internet connection you can use this awesome website to do a screen share!

https://www.join.me
It's free and you don't have to sign up for it. He just needs to start a session and then invite you to join it with a code. It's how my fiance (now husband) and I filled out the web form, it was easier to have him see exactly what I was seeing. We were also Skyping while using join.me. The online form isn't the exact same as the paper one by any means.

I found out about join.me at work, our IT company was on the east coast while we were in Colorado... Not exactly helpful. *shakes head*

Oh, and you can also allow other people to have control over your computer. That bit is a bit laggy, but it works!

The usual. American girl meets British guy. They fall into like, then into love. Then there was the big decision. The American traveled across the pond to join the Brit. And life was never the same again.

Excellent! Thanks! I was thinking of using Hangouts but this might be good.

On the first page, it asks for the date of intended travel. Well, how do we know till they tell us how long it will take to process?! We'd like to put down mid October but really don't know! Lol!

Hangouts never really worked well for me, the video quality was crap on my Mac. So that's why I looked elsewhere. *grins*

I hope it goes smoothly for you!
