In case of text telling you to get out

Keep in mind that Capita are vile and insidious and making money on every migrant booted, whether they're here legally or not:

It's both pretty appalling and not at all surprising.

Although T May et al say the idea is to create a 'hostile environment' for illegal immigrants, the environment is just becoming hostile to all, full stop.

So am I understanding this correctly? A government agency has given a private company the contact details of immigrants that have placed applications - and has told this private company the outcome of the applications, so that the private company can harass the immigrants?!?!! That's just unfathomable to me! Isn't that an invasion of privacy? The only people that should be aware of an immigrants' status, or lack thereof, should be UKBA and the immigrant!

I smell lots of lawsuits with this one.  Bluegrass lass is spot on......private info should stay private.

Heard on the TV today the message was "our records indicate you may not have leave to remain.  Call this number" The thing is, they aren't sending messages to just illegal immigrants.  One person who received a message was working in immigration law and was a british citizen.  Another was a british citizen who has never left the country.  They got thousands of complaints already....

Sigh.

I remember hearing about this at the beginning of this year (see: http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-20891597), and there must have been a UK-Y thread about it at the time.  I am glad it is being reported on again.  Thanks for posting, hms_seahorse.

Shady shady indeed.

What is the point really?  "Oh, this text tells me to leave, I better pack now..."

Seriously?
When I used to be on a motorcycle forum you listed your bikes here.  On the travel forum the countries you'd been to.  Photography, your cameras / lenses.  Somehow here it's bureaucratic BS survived!  Tier 1, fiance/spouse visa, ILR, AHHH!!!!!!  I feel like putting the fees...
