Any Americans care to meet up in West London?
« on: October 21, 2013, 09:51:10 AM »
Hi all,
My wife and I have been in London since the beginning of August, and thought it would be great to meet other Americans in London. We're from New Jersey (Princeton), and are currently living in Chiswick.

Any Americans in London interested in a meetup?

Al

I was about to attempt to rekindle the Central London meetup I tried to organize a few months back, but I'm also up for something in west London too.

When I used to be on a motorcycle forum you listed your bikes here.  On the travel forum the countries you'd been to.  Photography, your cameras / lenses.  Somehow here it's bureaucratic BS survived!  Tier 1, fiance/spouse visa, ILR, AHHH!!!!!!  I feel like putting the fees...

I'm in west london out in the sticks, but not too far from Chiswick or Richmond. If you are organizing a meetup, count me in. Feel free to PM me.

Bringing this thread back from a yearlong coma :)

Will be moving next week to London (hoping to live west) and would love to meet some other Americans in the area!

I've only been here a week and I miss Americans something awful so if I can make it I will try. Unfortunately, that's a bit far for me as I'm in Marylebone.

I would be down for some commiseration and chat for sure.  Been here almost a year and I'm just really... tired.  I don't miss America but it would be nice to be able to talk to people who understand the move thing without having to defend my choices in life.  I am down southeast Greenwich way, but if this can be set in the near west side of town that is doable, especially anywhere near the Central line.

Let's get this show on the road:

Would anyone be interested in meeting up at Timber Yard (tea/coffee/pastries/sandwiches) at Upper St Martin's Lane (by Leicester Sq tube) at, say, 12:30 on Saturday 22 November?  They have a large table or two in the basement area in the back that we could all gather round.  Alternatively there are some pubs in the area (Seven Dials) that could also stand in if necessary.

Thoughts?

I can't do it the 29th because that is when we are doing Thanksgiving at our place so I have to run home and throw a turkey in the oven :/  Kay, would it be easier for you if we did it Saturday 6 December?  That would give you some time to settle in too!

Also, if either of you can think of a small, comfortable place in West London, I can get there easily on a Saturday as I will be coming from Hyde Park.  Alternatively, there is the Serpentine Cafe in Hyde Park that has loads of tables and a really nice view (although there is some winter fair going on now that may result in a lot of people now :/)  I was at Timber Yard yesterday about 1.30 and it was heaving with people, and I can imagine Xmas shoppers will only make it worse in the coming weeks.

I may be able to meet up on Saturday, I have a citizenship checking ceremony earlier in the morning, but it should be over with time to spare.
It is difficult to speak adequately, or justly, of London. It is not a pleasant place; it is not agreeable, or easy, or exempt from reproach. It is only magnificent... the biggest aggregation of human life, the most complete compendium in the world.

Well, poop. I will be in London on the 22nd and would love to meet other Americans but I am spending the day with DH on an all day date that is pretty much the first this year due to finances.  [smiley=anxious.gif] It would be a bit unfair to drag him along to a group of people he doesn't know on our date. If you all meet up again I would like to join in. I'm in Hatfield which isn't too far from London.
Keepin' it real. Real annoying.

Just wanted to be clear that I will NOT be there tomorrow on the 22nd as it didn't seem like the date was going to work for others, but would be open to a meet up two weeks from tomorrow.

Didn't want anyone to show up and wonder what happened!
